What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Based Special Education Director High School position at BFA Bellows Free Academy St. Albans?
Bellows Free Academy (BFA) St. Albans welcomes candidates for a new positions of Building Based Special Education Director, which will provide building-level leadership in student services under the supervision of the building Principal and district Director of Special Education. The Building Based Special Education Director will be a member of BFA's administrative team and will provide guidance and oversight in student planning and programming, serving as primary building-based LEA. BFA serves approximately 900 students in grades 9-12 and has a multi-tiered system of support that includes various programs and opportunities to meet diverse student needs. The Special Services Coordinator will provide supervision, guidance, and support to special educators across learning environments. We provide services to students with a wide variety of specialized programming:
-The Learning Center has consulting teachers working with students who receive the majority of their instruction in the general education environment. The focus of the work is in co-teaching and collaborative consultation with content area teachers. Students also receive special education support in an academic skills period.
-The NOVUS program serves students with social-emotional needs who require some, or all of their general education credits in a smaller setting and with an alternative curricular design. Students are provided many opportunities for community-based learning and work experiences.
-The Community Integration Program (CIP) serves students with Developmental Disabilities and Intensive Special Needs. All students have very individualized programming to demonstrate proficiency toward graduation. Students receive their education in the general education environment, in specialized content classes, and in community work experience.
The Student Services Coordinator will also work closely with the Director of Special Education to plan for the successful transition of students into BFA from Maple Run's three PK-8 schools as well as neighboring sending schools. This is a full-time, full year administrative position.
