DEGREE/EDUCATION:
- Graduate from accredited Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) Program
- Minimum of 2 years of active experience practicing at the Paramedic level. Practice as prehospital provider preferred.
- Shall have and maintain certification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or applicable Paramedic certification
- Paramedic / EMT Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Virginia Office of EMS accepted Emergency Vehicle Operators Course
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Incident Management System (NIMS)
- 100, 200, 700, and 800 level Certifications
- Licensed as a Paramedic by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.
- Paramedics working in prehospital EMS, will possess and maintain current certification through NREMT commensurate with the requirements of the position to which currently assigned.
- U.S. Citizenship: Workers performing under this contract must be US Citizens
- Immunizations: Immunizations (current and/or annual include but are not limited to: Influenza, Hepatitis B, Measles, Rubella, Tuberculosis, Tetanus and Diphtheria.
- Current Physical and N95 Particulate Respirator Wearer Qualification
- Must have a clear background in order to obtain security clearance and a CAC
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Effectively use correct grammar and spelling in all written communications
- Responds on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening.
- Responds to Interfacility Transfers and provides care and transport of patients that have been determined by a medical provider to need a higher level of care.
- Inter-Facility transfers are calls that involve transporting a patient from a medical clinic to a hospital for a higher level of care. We routinely transport to Mary Immaculate Hospital which is approximately 7 miles away. Riverside Hospital may also be a destination for specialty care that is not offered at Mary Immaculate and that is about 14 miles away.
- Interfacility transports are usually between 7 -14 miles in length. 2 paramedics would make up the crew for such calls and all equipment needed will be provided.
- Makes an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selects from a variety of prescribed protocols and proceeds to provide treatment as prescribed in the protocol.
- Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
- Determines with due regard to the patient’s condition, which medical facility they should be transported. Attends patient during transportation to the hospital.
- Responds to and participates in training exercises to include Active Shooter Drills and Mass Casualty Drills.
- Paramedic must maintain and demonstrate proficiency in regular drills, simulations, and refresher training.
- Perform the following procedures: Airway Obstruction and Respiratory Arrest; Cardiac Arrest; Mechanical Breathing Aids; Shock and Fluid Therapy; Wound Management; Fractures of Torso and Extremities; Head, Face, Neck, and Spine Injuries; Miscellaneous Medical Emergencies; Environmental Emergencies; Pharmacology; Extrication and Packaging of Victims; and Telemetry and Communication.
- When operating an emergency or patient transport vehicle, selects the most efficient route to and from the site of the emergency, considering traffic patterns, health facility locations, etc.
- Reports in clear, concise manner, orally or in writing, what injuries were identified and what patient care was administered at the emergency scene and in transit.
- Replenishment of supplies are required to ensure vehicle is ready for next transport.
- Perform operator maintenance on vehicles and equipment, as required. Ensure that vehicles are clean and neat. Decontaminate vehicles in accordance with MTF established procedures.
