Description
The Packaging Field Technician position provides professional service and support for BGR customers by performing field service installation, startup, repairs and maintenance of BGR purchased equipment. The Field Technician will work within the guidelines, established by the Manager of Service and will follow the established procedures when representing BGR on site with a client.
This position is designed to provide improved repair services to end customers as well as delivery of customer on site services. This position will be based in our BGR Warehouse located in Indianapolis, IN. This role is intended to provide an increased availability of technical staff and material to improve the turnaround time for in and out of warranty repairs. The specific tasks of trouble shooting, diagnostics repair and calibration of the equipment will be a standard as well as performance of return to bench preventive maintenance activities. The infield assignments will be to provide Field support for Sales and End Users to ensure the stable operation of customer purchased product (hardware and software). This includes installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the product as purchased by the end user. This role will interface directly with Customers, to ensure success in the install and/or resolution of technical matters, system software and or hardware failures, product performance issues and user quality improvements.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
- Install and commission newly sold packaging equipment (i.e. case sealers, case erectors, shrink systems, stretch wrappers, etc.)
- Give instruction for and demonstration of new or loaned equipment to customers, when needed
- Make field calls to customer sites to investigate and evaluate improperly functioning packaging equipment, as scheduled by service coordinator
- Establish plan of action to repair the equipment to full functionality; with the support of the service department office, order correct parts
- Achieve full functionality of equipment to customer satisfaction
- Make field calls in support of salespeople and/or automation engineer to determine customer equipment needs
- Perform maintenance and repair on equipment in-house as scheduled by service coordinator
- Perform and maintain BGR Planned Maintenance Program on qualifying equipment at customer sites
- Attend educational training provided by BGRs preferred equipment manufacturers, as scheduled by service manager
Qualifications
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Education: GED
- Experience: 3 years in similar field
- Daily travel throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana
- Occasional overnight travel
- Technician must have mechanical and electrical aptitude, in addition to prior experience.
- Must be self-motivated, accountable, disciplined to finish all projects to customer satisfaction
- Logical, detail-oriented
