Our machinery manufacturing client located in Chesapeake, Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accounting Manager to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, technical accounting expertise, and the ability to manage and develop staff while providing key support to the Director of Accounting. The Accounting Manager will play a crucial role in streamlining day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and managing the accounting team effectively.
Location: This position is onsite in Chesapeake, VA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in general ledger activities, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, providing guidance on complex accounting issues and assisting with their professional growth.
- Support the Director of Accounting by taking on detailed transactional tasks
- Review and ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Perform detailed analysis of financial data, prepare reconciliations, and investigate discrepancies as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and other financial reports for senior leadership.
- Work with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Lead or assist in implementing new accounting policies, procedures, and systems to streamline accounting functions.
- Act as a resource to address staff inquiries and provide guidance on complex accounting issues.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree a plus).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required.
- 5-7 years of experience in accounting with at least 2-3 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
- Proven experience leading and developing accounting teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of key accounting processes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and levels.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
