Overview
The Quality Process Engineer II will be instrumental in establishing and upholding stringent quality benchmarks for the production of aerospace and automotive components. Operating within an agile startup environment, this role demands a hands-on approach to quality assurance amid a rapidly scaling production setting. The successful candidate will design, implement, and manage quality control systems to maintain product integrity during periods of growth, all while demonstrating deep technical expertise and flexibility in problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Planning
• Design and implement robust quality assurance strategies for component manufacturing, ensuring adherence to aerospace and automotive industry standards (e.g., AS9100, IATF 16949).
• Identify essential quality metrics and develop procedures to continuously monitor product quality throughout the production lifecycle.
• Partner with design and production teams to set quality benchmarks and define product specifications.
Process Development & Continuous Improvement
• Innovate and refine inspection methods and manufacturing processes to enhance both quality and operational efficiency.
• Lead initiatives aimed at reducing defects, rework, and scrap while boosting production throughput.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline production workflows and seamlessly integrate quality practices into daily operations.
Scaling Quality Operations
• Develop scalable quality systems and procedures to support increased production volumes.
• Apply statistical process control (SPC) techniques to monitor and sustain production quality at higher scales.
• Prepare and maintain essential quality documentation, including Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), to facilitate scale-up efforts.
Data Analysis & Reporting
• Collect, analyze, and interpret quality data to uncover trends and drive improvements.
• Generate comprehensive quality reports for leadership, emphasizing key performance indicators such as First Pass Yield, defect rates, and customer feedback.
Training & Mentorship
• Train production staff on quality standards and inspection techniques, emphasizing the importance of quality control.
• Mentor junior quality personnel, guiding them on best practices and established procedures.
Additional Duties
• Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the quality system, collaborating with management to implement improvements.
• Oversee the Quality Management System to ensure its ongoing effectiveness through regular audits (including Layered Process Audits, AS 9100 Internal Audits, Process Audits, and corporate assessments), and leverage findings to drive continuous improvement.
• Initiate corrective and preventive actions, investigate customer complaints, and work closely with Manufacturing to improve first pass quality.
• Lead Safe Launch activities by managing risks and validating process capabilities via Process Validation builds.
• Ensure adherence to Customer Quality Requirements and the effectiveness of corrective actions addressing systemic issues.
• Collaborate with management on annual budgeting, including forecasting capital expenditures and operational quality costs, while ensuring financial objectives are met.
• Execute any other duties as assigned by the Site Director.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Quality Assurance.
• A minimum of 3 years of comprehensive technical experience in a manufacturing setting.
• At least 3 years of experience in quality administration and/or quality engineering.
• Experience in the automotive or aerospace industries, particularly in roles interfacing with OEM customers, is preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in customer management, manufacturing problem solving, and risk management.
• Six Sigma certification is an advantage.
• Familiarity with IATF 16949 or AS 9100 standards.
• Solid understanding and experience with lean manufacturing principles.
• Extensive knowledge of quality principles, standards, methodologies, and practices.
• Proficiency with advanced metrology and laboratory equipment.
• Ability to solve complex problems and introduce innovative improvements to existing processes.
• Proactive in anticipating process adjustments to meet customer needs.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions.
• Capable of working effectively in a production-oriented environment with minimal supervision.
