What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at BGSF?
Our client, a fast growing food manufacturing company in Chicago's near west suburbs, is looking for a senior accounting profession to join their team. There can be some flexibility on title (up or down) given experience. The position is responsible for leading the accounting function. This includes ownership of the general ledger, all day-to-day accounting activities, and internal controls; and coordination of month-end close activities, internal/external reporting, and annual audits. This role will report directly to the CFO and have a lot of visibility within the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ownership of month end close processes (planning close schedule, team communication, posting journal entries/accruals, creating financial exhibits).
- Maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- P&L Variance Analysis and Notes, focusing on the drivers of the business results.
- Development of other variance analyses (Purchase Price Variance, Inventory Usage Variance, Labor vs. Standard Variance).
- Reconciliation of weekly labor results versus payroll invoices.
- Preparation and/or review of year end audit schedules.
- Own data requests and document pulls during year end audit.
- Creation and analysis of obsolete inventory reports.
- Frequent updates of monthly financial statements.
- Maintain and prepare reports for weekly Management Meeting (sales, orders, plant performance, capacity etc.)
- Assist with BOM/Costing activities.
- Oversee day-to-day AR/AP functions (invoicing, cash application, collections).
- Act as a strategic business partner to senior executive leadership team.
- Assist in the coordination of the budget process by analyzing cost trends, creating forecast models and working with all areas to adhere to timelines.
- Manage the development of weekly/monthly planning, forecasting, inventory and reporting models and their continuous innovation.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
- Demonstrated experience and success in a finance leadership role; proven leadership with financial planning & analysis, system and analytics.
- Prior CPA/Audit firm or food manufacturing experience preferred.
- ERP experience.
- Advanced Excel Skills (Pivot Tables, SUMIF functions, filters/sorting, VLOOKUP, basic graphs/charts).
- Strong communication and analytical skills to be able to articulate financial data in a non-technical manner.
- Excellent organizational skills and a proven ability to manage detailed requirements efficiently and effectively.
Salary : $70,000 - $110,000
