The EHS Manager reports to the HR Director with a strong dotted line to the Plant Manager and is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for employees, operational compliance with environmental regulations, and fostering a safety culture.
- Advise management on EHS matters
- Review plant operation and employee management of safety through physically walking and observing
- Manage plant LOTO program working in conjunction with Engineering to ensure LOTO placards and procedures exist for all equipment and processes
- Develop and execute equipment specific LOTO training
- Conduct behavior-based audits, train other auditors and monitor program
- Annually review and ensure implementation of EHS protocols; implement new protocols as necessary
- Ensure new plant machinery meets applicable requirements; follow up with maintenance regarding safety work orders and PMs affecting safety and environmental permits
- Collaborate with team members to ensure EHS requirements are being addressed
- Conduct trainings on safety, energy and environmental policies and procedures; facilitate EHS portion of new hire orientation; maintain training matrices for internal and OSHA required trainings
- Complete incident investigations, including post risk assessment, record keeping and documentation
- Conduct risk assessments and develop corrective actions, including ergonomic assessment of workplace
- Manage purchase requisitions for EHS related materials, equipment, and services
- Conduct environmental inspections and audits
- Manage Waste Program
- Manage Industrial Hygiene Program
- Deploy EHS Management System
- Coordinate HAZCOM Program and SDS
- Complete and submit regulatory environmental reports
- Act as Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Action Plan Coordinator
- Manage Workers Compensation cases in partnership with Human Resources
Requirements
Education/Credentials/Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred
- OSHA 10 certification
- OSHA 30 card recommended
- EMT and/or First Responder Certification
- Internal auditor – ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 45001 preferred
Length of Experience
- At least 3-5 years of experience as a safety manager in a heavy industrial and manufacturing environment
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Well-versed in applicable standards: OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, etc.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and practices
- Ability to lead through others and build cross-functional teams
- Understanding of manufacturing facilities and machining processes; familiarity with shop floor
- Knowledge of industrial and office ergonomics
- Ability to foster and stress the importance of a safety culture
- Excellent oral and written language skills
- Excellent problem solving and reasoning ability
- Ability to follow step-by-step procedures
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize and reprioritize based on changing nature of risks
- Ability to use gauges and other measurement tools
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
