The Process/Design Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for designing, optimizing, and monitoring forging processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves analyzing production workflows, implementing process improvements, and troubleshooting operational issues. The Process/Design Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to support manufacturing objectives and drive continuous improvement in forging operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine forging processes to meet production, quality, and cost targets.
- Select appropriate materials, equipment, and techniques for forging operations.
- Conduct time studies and workflow analyses to improve operational efficiency.
- Work with tooling and maintenance teams to ensure dies, molds, and equipment align with process requirements.
- Assist in the design and modification of tools and fixtures to optimize forging performance.
- Monitor and recommend updates for equipment to enhance productivity.
- Ensure forging processes meet all quality standards and specifications.
- Identify root causes of defects or inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Support quality teams in performing audits, tests, and inspections related to forging processes.
- Collect and analyze data on forging operations, including cycle times, scrap rates, and productivity.
- Develop reports to track process performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Utilize statistical methods to optimize process parameters and maintain consistency.
- Lead or participate in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma projects to improve forging operations.
- Implement cost-saving measures while maintaining quality and production standards.
- Evaluate and introduce advanced forging technologies and best practices.
- Ensure all forging processes comply with safety standards and regulations.
- Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with forging operations.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous awareness among employees.
- Work closely with production, engineering, tooling, and maintenance teams to resolve process-related issues.
- Provide technical support and training to operators and technicians.
- Collaborate with suppliers and customers to align processes with material and product requirements.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong knowledge of forging techniques, materials science, and heat treatment processes.
- Proficiency in CAD software, process simulation tools, and statistical analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Certification in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related disciplines preferred.
- Familiarity with forging equipment, such as presses, and furnaces.
- Experience with automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 3 years of experience in process engineering in forging or metalworking industries.
Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
