The Process/Design Engineering manager reports to the Plant President and is responsible for maintaining and implementing best-in-class manufacturing methods.  The Process/Design Engineering Manager is also responsible for identifying areas for improvement in machines and processes in order to prepare recommendations for management, helping to coordinate the implementation of improvements, and tracking performance after implementation.

• Lead Process/Design Engineering team by delegating and prioritizing key initiatives.
• Consistently monitor processes in the plant and make recommendations for improvement; walk plant floors to observe processes and monitor product from start to finish
• Drive development of forge tooling designs for new parts and improve forge tooling designs for existing parts
• Communicate and collaborate with customer on full life cycle of parts from conception to testing to serial production 
• Improve the operational performance by identifying quality and customer needs and assisting the staff in identifying and diagnosing customer, process and quality problems
• Provide Process Engineering Change notices for internal and external customer design changes 
• Special projects such as the implementation of SPC (Statistical Process Controls) 
• Evaluate new machines and equipment in comparison to existing equipment; prepare feasibility report for adoption of new equipment.
• Ensure accurate bill of materials (BOM) exists for all newly acquired equipment.
• Support Maintenance in developed BOM for existing equipment.
• Act as Project Manager for projects related to plant expansion programs and installation of new equipment.
• Assist the Maintenance department with mechanical design projects.
• Conduct research into new processes and prepare reports detailing costs and feasibility.
• Support analysis of material handling problems and researching solutions.
• Track performance of plant machines and related tools and equipment and implement improvements where necessary.
• Support cross-functional teams (i.e. Operations, Maintenance, Quality) in developing standard operating procedures for processes, set-ups, and inspection methods.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge of thermal dynamics and forging processes 
• Ability to identify areas for process improvement, and implement strategies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and quality, to drive process enhancements and resolve technical challenges.
• Knowledge of up-to-date industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in forging with proven track record of incorporating into the manufacturing process.
• Ability to ensure the feasibility and manufacturability of new products, considering cost, quality, and efficiency aspects.
• Ability to lead the process qualification and validation activities for new products, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
• Ability to Utilize a host of CAD and office software (i.e. Pro-E, AutoCAD, VeroCAD, Anvil, and Forge3). 
• Excellent written and oral language ability.
• Strong mathematical ability, especially in trigonometry.
• Excellent reasoning and problem-solving ability. 
• Excellent project management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office. 

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Related Field

• 5-7 years of experience in heavy manufacturing required with at least 3 years prior management experience preferred 

• Prior forging experience strongly preferred 

Salary : $110,000 - $125,000
