Description
The Field Survey Technician works with various members of the surveying project team to deliver on time and accurate survey projects. The work is done almost entirely in local fieldwork locations, but there may also be short-term travel field assignments outside of the Wichita area a few times per year.

Essential Functions
- Operates and utilizes all survey equipment - GPS and conventional in the performance of boundary, ALTA, topographic and engineering surveys
- Works from notes, sketches, maps, and other materials to complete survey tasks with supervision
- Communicates with the Project Surveyor or Project Manager before, during and after completion of field work to properly relay information on field conditions on-site
- Responsible for clear, informative, and accurate field notes
- Works cooperatively with multiple crews
- Takes responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and welfare of all equipment in the field, including the work vehicle
- Brings field shots into CAD to process codes and line work prior to delivery to the survey drafting technician
- This position is regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week and will have overtime as needed
Qualifications
Experience
- 0 years survey crew experience
- Demonstrated interest in continuing education (ex. Certified Survey Technician CST)
- A valid drivers license must be maintained and insurable
- Physical working requirements:
- Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Able to walk up/down stairs
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Subject to outside environmental conditions year round
Skills
- Able to recognize all colors live and in print
- Must develop proficiency with data collectors and total stations (conventional and robotic)
- Must understand algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent required
- Geospatial industry degree a plus
