Domestic Violence Advocate Liaison

POSITION SUMMARY:  To create an environment that supports individual safety and breaks the cycle of domestic violence by providing services that include crisis intervention/short term counseling/safety planning, and domestic violence education.

Accountable and responsible for the following results:

  • Assist clients engaging with ASC services by scheduling and guiding clients’ access to services
  • Perform quality oversight with ASC services by obtaining client feedback
  • Build community partnerships that will benefit clients and their needs
  • Collaborate with law enforcement to coordinate meetings between police/UCDVS/community providers and/or victims when victims wish to have a collaborative meeting regarding their situation.
  • Collaborate with police for LAP call reporting and deviations from protocol
  • Responsible for completing client intakes and advocacy for victims of domestic violence
  • Conducts danger assessments including risk for lethality utilizing safety planning for victims of domestic violence and their families
  • Provide trauma informed emotional support to help victims understand feelings and behaviors in response to abuse and specific ways to build self-esteem and coping strategies
  • Responsible for covering hotline and LAP line as scheduled
  • Advocate with outside system regarding client’s needs
  • Assist client’s and their families in developing safety planning which address client’s particular situations
  • Provide clients with information and referral and resources outside of the domestic violence program
  • Provide victim compensation information and assisting in filing compensation forms
  • Attend scheduled meetings and on-going trainings
  •  Maintains accurate case files and enters data into database
  • Maintain and enhance professional proficiency by participating in continued education and workshops designed to enhance skills and understanding of family violence issues.
  • Attends training sessions, workshops, seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensing
  • Required to use own vehicle on company business or to transport clients
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position
  • May perform other assignments and duties as assigned

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Three to Five years Advocacy and/or direct service experience working with survivors of domestic violence in a community-based setting preferred;
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) reading writing and speaking preferred;
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the certified domestic violence counselor per CGS 52-146k before providing direct service to clients;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients
  • Experience developing and maintaining quality relationships with Community service providers;
  • Knowledge of community resources;
  • Crisis intervention and counseling skills;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft 365. Must be able to navigate through electronic health records system (EHR).
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.  Must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organization’s auto insurance plan.
