What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Standards and Audits Manager position at BHE Renewables, LLC?
Oversees the health and safety programs for BHE Renewables. Engaged in efforts to improve overall safety performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and regulatory required safety training. Responsible for operational safety and risk mitigation efforts as well as enforcement of compliance to federal, state and local safety regulatory codes, statutes and provisions for all BHE Renewables business units and other various industry organizations' standards.
Provides technical interpretation for the application of regulatory standards, codes and provisions and develops operational programming to enhance the safety culture. Serve as one of the primary liaisons to the health and safety managers, compliance health & safety coordinators, and environmental health and safety engineers. Provides company with timely, regulatory climate and status change information.
Complies with company policies, standards and procedures; develops criteria and tools for evaluating effectiveness of training activities and implements changes based on analyzing processes, procedures, performance gaps and trends to ensure training programs support employees safely doing the job right the first time to the satisfaction of customers, regulators, shareholders and management.
- Oversees the safety standards and audit programs for BHE Renewables to improve overall safety performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and regulatory required safety training.
- Approves written safety auditing communications, verifies findings and monitors results as submitted by the safety managers pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) record keeping provision per 29 CFR, Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation - Pipeline Safety, for BHE Renewables. Approves action plans and drives compliance changes including budgetary approvals for projects to comply with standards. Interprets and ensures proper application of administrative safety acts or laws for BHE Renewables’ businesses and locations. Provides guidance to business unit safety managers and coordinators on classification of employee injuries and motor vehicle accidents.
- Maintains a higher level of skill and knowledge of regulations applicable to each business unit including OSHA and MSHA compliance inspection guidelines. Maintains proficiency in NFPA and ANSI standards. Responsible for the development and auditing of operational safety programs, protocols and performs internal safety reviews to ensure company compliance to interpretation and application of regulatory compliance issues. Develops and approves safety programs and recommends or approves application to ensure consistency and compliance to regulatory requirements across BHE Renewables’ platforms.
- Assures consistent processes and procedures are in place and are the basis of training. Recommends consistent and/or improved technical procedures in order to assure that safety and consistent practices are incorporated in all training and evaluations.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and a bachelor's degree in safety, environmental, business or related field or the equivalent progressive related work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
- Six years’ experience in electric and gas operations and/or safety compliance, including three years in leadership/supervisory role, with specific experience in renewable energy preferred.
- Two years industrial hygiene experience preferred.
- Experience in training program development, presentation skills, measurement tools, and facilitation is required. This may consist of time spent as subject matter expert (SME) trainer and/or on-the job training.
- Advanced leadership and interpersonal skills to negotiate, influence, deliver business presentations, and coach and counsel while exhibiting confidentiality and credibility.
- Effective analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral (one-on-one and group) communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Extensive experience prioritizing and handling multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Knowledge of local, state, federal and company operating requirements and regulations.
