Description
The Operations and Maintenance Manager position provides direct supervision to the operations and maintenance personnel, ensures the efficient, reliable operation of the facility and ensures compliance with safety, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Department of Energy (DOE), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and environmental standards. This position also performs the functions of the environmental, health and safety coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise all operations and maintenance functions necessary to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the plant to meet scheduled production level and to meet all performance and compliance requirements. Initiate action to improve operating efficiency of the plant facilities. Must be able to take immediate and decisive action to minimize disruption of operations. (10%) Responsible for plant operating performance and equipment reliability. Responsible for shift schedules and the coordination of maintenance activities with plant personnel and outside service providers. Schedules plant performance testing.
- Maintain and enforce safety procedures, including all lockout/tagout and safe work procedures. Maintain working relationships with the safety manager and the director of environmental services.
- Develop and direct the implementation of operations and maintenance procedures, plan to assure optimum efficiency and effectiveness in plant operations and outage planning, giving consideration to equipment capabilities, customer demands, operating personnel and equipment maintenance requirements.
- Develop and maintain computerized maintenance management program, including a predictive maintenance program.
- Prepare annual budget for the plant.
- Establish daily operating plans for electric power and thermal energy production. Coordinate these plans with power purchaser(s). Maintain records and report plant performance on daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Coordinate, schedule and conduct mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance repair and preventative maintenance.
- Maintain needed site spare parts in coordination with maintenance and warehouse personnel.
- Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, organizational goals and objectives, planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department.
- Develop contracts, in coordination with others and oversee performance of contractors required for on-site maintenance, services, equipment rentals and maintenance training.
- Be able to perform the duties of the general manager in his/her absence.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor's degree.)
- Eight years of power plant operations or maintenance related experience, including at least three years supervisory/management responsibilities.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or board of directors. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.

- Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting an electric generating facility. Thorough knowledge of maintenance philosophy and processes.
- Comprehensive understanding of electric generating plant systems.
- A valid New York driver's license is required.

Pay: $119,400.00 - $168,500.00 per year
