What are the responsibilities and job description for the WIND Drivetrain technician position at BHI Energy?
The Wind Drivetrain Technician will perform up tower gearbox repair including intermediate shaft (IMS) and high-speed shaft (HSS) bearing replacements, borescoping, pitch tube repair, driven and non-driven generator bearing replacements, generator alignments and any mechanical upgrade or work. Troubleshooting system issues is a key part of this role as many customers will know they have a symptom, but you will need to successfully diagnosis the problem.
Essential Functions
• Diagnose problems involving wind turbine drivetrains.
• Climb wind turbine towers to inspect, maintain, or repair equipment.
• Test electrical components of wind systems with devices such as voltage testers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, infrared testers, or fiber optic equipment.
• Start or restart wind turbine generator systems to ensure proper operations.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical drivetrain components.
• Maintain tool and spare parts inventories required for repair, installation, or replacement services.
• Perform routine maintenance on wind turbine equipment.
• Test structures, controls, or mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems, according to test plans, for proper function or in coordination with engineers requirements.
• Collect turbine data for testing or research and analysis.
• Train end-users, distributors, installers, or other technicians in wind commissioning, testing, or other technical procedures.
• Operate manufacturing equipment to fabricate wind turbines components.
• Assist in assembly of individual wind turbines or construction of wind farms.
• Measure turbine outputs and understand how actual output compares to planned output.
• Inspect mechanical equipment to locate damage, defects, or wear.
• Fabricate parts or components.
• Disassemble and assemble drivetrain components uptower.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
• GWO, BST, ART and BTT certificates
• Winergy, Nanjing, ZF or other wind turbine gearbox experience mandatory
• High School Diploma / GED
• Pass Background Check and Drug Screening
• Valid Drivers License (required to operate company vehicle)
• 100% Travel required
