POSITION SUMMARY

***Seeking CNAs for Second shift hours***


The Certified Nursing Assistant  provides supportive nursing care and
activities of daily living within the scope of practice. The care provided is based on
individual resident needs and promotes the physical, mental, nutritional, and emotional
well-being of each resident.


GENERAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Supports the mission; resident life, health, and wellness philosophy; and the code
of professional conduct of BHI Retirement Communities, Inc.
2. Understands and abides by the BHI Retirement Communities, Inc., employee
handbook, and other policies and procedures that apply to his/her department.
3. Reports to immediate supervisor or department manager known or potential
violations of the resident’s rights policy, resident abuse policy, professional ethics
statement, corporate compliance policy, HIPAA privacy policy, confidentiality
policy, anti-harassment policy, zero-tolerance workplace violence policy, profanity
in the workplace policy, time-keeping policy, and other policies and procedures
established by the organization.
4. Attends work as scheduled, maintains acceptable personal appearance/hygiene,
follows the designated dress code policy, and keeps the work area in neat, clean,
and orderly condition.
5. Understands and successfully performs job functions. Works effectively, is precise,
able to prioritize and meet requirements and deadlines.
6. Demonstrates sound judgment and discretion in the performance of job duties.
7. Exhibits quality customer service behaviors by demonstrating kindness, tact, and
courtesy toward all residents, family members, colleagues, outside vendors, and
other visitors to the BHI Retirement’s central office, communities, and other BHI
locations.
8. Communicates respectfully, clearly, and effectively both verbally and in writing.
9. Treats all matters concerning the corporation, communities, employees, and
residents with strict confidentiality and in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
10. Complies with required training and reporting requirements, including but not
limited to;
• Immediately reports any problems or concerns, verbally or in writing, to your
direct supervisor or Executive Director. Concerns may include, but are not
limited to, unusual resident behavior, concerns expressed by family members
or other visitors to the community and equipment malfunctions or breakdowns.
• Participates in fire safety and other disaster preparedness education and
training and responds to emergency situations in accordance with community
policies and procedures and by assisting with resident evacuations, as required.
Maintains knowledge and training in bloodborne pathogen exposure control
plan and universal precautions.
• Successfully completes all required in-service training, attends departmental
staff meetings, maintains required licensure (if applicable) and maintains
relevant knowledge related to current state and federal regulations, medical,
nursing, geriatric standards of practice and other pertinent information
pertaining to his/her position by attending educational workshops and
seminars, as approved by leadership.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare each resident for the day and/or night by assisting with bathing, dressing,
toileting, and activities of daily living.
• Provide privacy during resident care.
• Apply supportive devices, eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, braces, etc.
• Ensure each resident receives oral care twice a day and hair grooming at
least daily.
• Complete all duties outlined on the assignment sheet.
• Communicate verbally with residents while performing care and/or services
to inform them of what’s occurring and alleviate any fears.
2. Obtain resident vital signs in accordance with departmental policy; read and
accurately record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and weight.
3. Promptly and accurately document all required resident information in the medical
record, such as oral intake, fluid intake, urinary output, bowel movements, daily skin
assessments, activities of daily living, etc.
4. Assist residents with the following in accordance with their specific care plan:
• Turning and positioning in bed at least every two (2) hours.
• Getting in and out of bed
• Walking
• Getting in and out of a chair or wheelchair
• Getting on and off a toilet or commode
• Getting in and out of a full tub or shower
5. Respond to resident call lights and other types of requests for assistance in a timely
manner and provide or obtain the necessary care or assistance.
6. Address resident toileting needs and incontinence issues in accordance with state and
federal regulations and infection control procedures. Change incontinent residents as
needed. Distribute, clean and remove bedpans and urinals. Rinse dirty linen prior to
sending it to the laundry.
7. Provide restorative care and assist non-ambulatory residents with range of motion
exercises in accordance with the care plan. Ensure the proper body alignment of
residents.
8. Collect and store medical specimens with direction/oversight from a licensed nurse or
nursing supervisor.
9. Pass fresh ice water and nourishments to residents within required time frames.
10. Provide nail care to appropriate residents.
11. Apply non-medicated skin care products as specified in the medical record and/or
assignment sheet.
12. Immediately report any unusual symptoms, changes, accidents, and/or injuries to the
director of nursing or nursing supervisor.
13. Assist with post-mortem care, as directed.
14. Facilitate meal service for the residents;
• Transport residents to the dining room.
• Distribute correct meal tray to each resident.
• Assist with feeding, as necessary.
• Deliver meal trays to resident rooms, as required
• Remove trays from table, prepare and store meal trays for removal.
15. Support and assist with social service, life enrichment and fitness programming.
16. Maintain resident rooms and belongings in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
• Keep closets and drawers organized
• Make beds (occupied and unoccupied)
• Clean hairbrushes and combs
• Clean eyeglasses and dentures
17. Stock and obtain necessary supplies and clean nursing equipment (e.g. bedpans,
wheelchairs, etc.) in accordance with scheduled duties or as directed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Successful completion of the certified nursing assistant (C.N.A.) training
program as required by the state, pass the state testing requirements, and be in good
standing with the state’s Nurse Aid Registry program.
Preferred: Two or more years of C.N.A. experience in a senior care setting.
