About the Role
The Principal Regulatory Counsel will primarily provide legal advice and expertise on market conduct-related issues, including commodities trading licensing; analysis and assessment of Compliance and regulatory risks arising from BHP’s Commercial activities; and contributing to the management of the Compliance strategy and frameworks that serve to protect and enhance BHP’s reputation, manage compliance risk and contribute to social value creation.
The role reports to the Manager Compliance Legal Anti-corruption, Trade & Regulatory and is based in Singapore.
- Lead Compliance legal advisor for market conduct and market manipulation laws, commodities trading licensing and other regulatory requirements applicable to BHP’s commodity trading activities primarily within the global Commercial function.
- Lead Compliance Legal advisor for derivatives, paper trading and hedging activities conducted over key commodity exchanges and over-the-counter transactions.
- Provides advice and input on risk assessments and frameworks for compliance with commodities trading and regulatory rules.
- Supports decision making in relation to proposed commercial transactions by engaging with stakeholders.
- Leads law firm engagement for market conduct and commodities licensing regulatory issues.
- Proactively maintains up to date knowledge of developments in commodities trading and regulatory laws.
- Helps develop and deliver compliance stakeholder engagement and tailored training.
- Drafts, reviews and advises on contractual clauses pertaining to commodities trading regulatory risks.
- Manages investigations into potential breaches of market conduct rules.
