Duties & Responsibilities
You will be responsible for identifying and proposing solutions to complex biomanufacturing challenges that are of interest to Boehringer Ingelheim Fremont, Inc. Specifically, you will develop and execute experimental plans that utilize both traditional and novel tools, techniques, and ideas, where the results support the proposed solution. Initial focus will be on process robustness and yield increase. Another important part of your responsibility will be to obtain buy in and support from matrixed functions and leadership as well as to provide regular progress updates.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will have the opportunity to drive research of novel concepts in process science, biomanufacturing science, process analytical technologies, computational modeling & digitalization technologies, and other technological aspects of biomanufacturing. Additionally, you will have the opportunity and responsibility to collaborate with leading academic institutions as well as other industrial partners. You will be responsible for identifying and developing appropriate tools and methods as well as integrating and interpreting your data.
A unique aspect of this appointment is the opportunity to obtain additional training in innovation management as this role is within the Technology Innovation group
Requirements
- PhD degree in Bioprocess Engineering, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with no more than 3 years of Postdoctoral experience
- Ability to utilize advanced laboratory techniques and analytical methods
- Hands on experience with aseptic technique, microbial/mammalian cell culture and process analytics technology
- Expertise proposing innovative ideas to solve complex problems
- Independently conduct research projects and effectively present the results
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, a proactive attitude, self-sufficient, and the ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Strong drive to learn new things
- Experience in searching and evaluating literature/patents

- Proven track record of conducting and publishing innovative research projects
- Writing of research proposals
- Broad scientific and technical knowledge with the ability to quickly become an expert in a specific topic
- Ability to think outside the box, enjoys brainstorming, and is comfortable with ambiguity
- Experience in adapting established technologies and methodologies to a different technical field
