The University of Iowa Health Care - Radiology Department intends to hire for one position at either the Imaging Technologist classification or Senior Imaging Technologist, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Selective candidates eligible for a sign-on bonus of $5,000. Moving allowance may be available.  Current UI employees are not eligible.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology is seeking a Senior Imaging Technologist – Breast Imaging to perform a variety of mammographic procedures and assist in invasive procedures, Machines QA and participate in teaching students.

Duties Include:

  • A 100% Mammographer under limited supervision; perform mammography images in the Breast Imaging area, utilizing advanced technology/equipment, explain examination procedures to patients and monitor their well-being
  • Instruct students and staff on examination and equipment operations.
  • Perform complex diagnostic mammographic images including screening and diagnostic studies.
  • Provide instruction to trainees, students and other medical staff on operation and safety precautions.
  • Consult with the interpreting physician regarding the mammographic exam findings.
  • Document exam information as required by departmental standards.
  • Evaluate images of mammographic exams and determine if the exam is of diagnostic quality.
  • Assist with and provide Mammographic guidance for invasive procedures.
  • Provide information and instructions to patient, patient’s family, or others, regarding the nature of requested diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
  • Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation, monitoring, and recording.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 0800-1630. This position may include rotating weekend and holiday on call responsibilities.

Pay Grade: 5

The Department of Radiology will be filling this position at one of two levels. Experience Requirements (Senior Imaging Technologist and Imaging Technologist)

  • A Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Senior Imagist Technologist: Minimum two years' experience working in Radiologic Technology

 Certification Requirements (Senior Imaging Technologist and Imaging Technologist)

  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certificate is required.
  • Current Permit to Practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.

Desirable Qualifications for Senior Imaging Technologist

  • Current American Registered Radiology Technologist with Mammography Certification is desired.
  • Experience with a Breast Imaging procedures is desired. Examples of procedures includes breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, mammography QA, breast needle and seed location.
  • 1-2 years of mammography experience is desired.

Desirable Qualifications for Imaging Technologist

  • Current American Registered Radiology Technologist with Mammography Certification is desired.
  • Experience with a Breast Imaging procedures is desired. Examples of procedures includes breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, mammography QA, breast needle and seed location.
  • 1-2 years of mammography experience is desired.
