JOB SUMMARY
The Military Instructor (JLC) is the institutional leader in managing and conducting the Junior Leadership Corps (JLC) program at the Middle School level by Bibb County Schools rules, regulations, and policies. Reports to the JROTC Director (Army Instruction) and manages the instructional, operations, and administrative mission of the JLC program. Responsible for providing classroom instruction to cadets as established within the curriculum's program of instruction (POI) as provided by school district guidelines and policies. Adheres to BCSD JLC set operating procedures relating to cadet administration, control, and training. Assists establishing and maintaining viable extra-curricular activities such as Color Guards, Drill Teams, Raider Teams, Orienteering Teams, and Academic Teams and maintains a strong partnership with the associated high school JROTC program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Ensures, in conjunction with the Principal, Director of Army Instruction, and other agencies, the JLC Program is administered in accordance with the law, regulation, and policies; manages daily execution of the JLC Department functions of instruction, training, extra-curricular activities, and administration.
- Maintains good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body; maintains current regulations, policies, and procedures and maintains contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
- Ensures all JROTC classes are conducted utilizing the lesson plans in the current and updated version of the JLC curriculum are taught as required by the approved Master Training Schedule.
- Utilizes all available instructional equipment, including but not limited to the computers, LCD projectors, Classroom Performance Systems (CPS), SMART Boards, Promethium Boards, etc.
- Conducts a public affairs effort in the local area high schools and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups, and other individuals or groups, designed to further the understanding of JLC, JROTC, the school, and the Army.
- Enrolls students in JLC and supports school officials while executing the curriculum and the integrated and extracurricular activities.
- Directs and participates in community service events with cadets, including weekend duties as applicable.
- Ensures that cadet Service Learning Projects (SLR) are developed, planned, organized, conducted, and reviewed by other cadets; ensures that SLRs are briefed to the DAI before and after execution.
- Maintains accountability of all equipment, including items requiring formal accountability (i.e., air rifles), informal accountability (i.e., clothing), and durable items costing $5,000 or less (i.e., automation, computers, audiovisual), but still requiring property accountability.
- Coordinates all transportation for cadets.
- You must have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site during normal business hours.
- Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Associate’s Degree is required. Must obtain a Bachelor’s Degree within five years as outlined in Title XU.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have an innate, working knowledge of the U. S. military and all facets of operations, leadership, service to the country, values, discipline, teamwork, and drill & ceremonies.
- Must be able to represent the school, the JROTC program, and BCSD in a favorable light to stakeholders.
- Must work alone and nest program goals and objectives with those of the feeder High School JROTC program.
- Subject to frequent night and weekend activities.
- Required travel to attend JROTC conferences and summer events as applicable.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to obtain GaPSC Clearance Certificate
- Present DD-214 prior to hiring.
- Must possess or be able to obtain JROTC Permit from GaPSC
Salary/Terms/Benefits:
- 190 day work year.
- Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Adopted Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
