JOB SUMMARY
This position conducts independent criminal investigations in a variety of areas; prepares reports and develops cases for prosecution.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conducts in-depth criminal and crime scene investigations related to specific area of assignment; ensures comprehensive collection and analysis of evidence and completion of detailed documentation related to incidents.
- Testifies in court, as required; conducts interviews of suspects, witnesses, and victims.
- Analyzes methods of operation, patterns, and characteristics of crimes and criminal records to identify trends and patterns.
- Reviews police reports for consistency and thorough documentation of key evidential facts to reasonably assure a conviction can be obtained.
- Reviews and maintains files and evidence.
- Provides technical investigative assistance to departmental staff and outside agencies, as required.
- Recommends improvements in police investigative efforts.
- Coordinates specialized details and activities with internal police staff and other involved parties; recommends standards for investigative approach to cases within the detail.
- May perform undercover assignments, arranging and maintaining surveillance and stakeouts; apprehends law violators and make warrant / warrantless arrests; serves search warrants.
- When not conducting investigations, may patrol the Board of Education campuses performing usual police officer duties related to the protection of life and property.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Two (2) years of college is desired.
Prior training and experience in law enforcement is required. High School Diploma or State Approved High School Equivalency; Associate's degree preferred. Prior training and experience in law enforcement is required. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and / or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Georgia P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certification. Current and valid Georgia driver's license is required. An extensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph test and a drug screening, will be conducted prior to employment. Random drug screening will be conducted after employment. Physical agility tests conducted on a regular basis after employment.
