What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF CENTRAL OHIO INC.?
Summary :
To directly supervise their cabin group, encourage campers to participate in all activities, and guide the campers throughout their stay at camp with attention to safety at all times.
Responsibilities :
Plan and implement daily activities with your group.
Communicate and work with a cabin group and provide necessary instructions to campers.
Observe camper behaviors, assess appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Plan, conduct, and teach activities to campers.
Guide individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
Administer necessary medications per camp nurse instruction at appropriate times.
Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.
Develop daily activities with, not for, the campers.
Communicate plans and needs to Unit Leader.
Supervise all aspects of the camper's day, including flag raising, cabin clean-up, meal times, swim time, evening activities, overnights, getting ready for bed, etc.
Physical ability to participate in all camp activities (i.e., hiking, swimming, ropes course, etc.)
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first-aid and to assist campers in other emergency situations.
Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, clean up and chores, and table manners.
Follow camp rules and regulations as outlined in personnel policies and procedures and staff training.
Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
Submit all required reports on time.
At the end of each session, clean your cabin area and assist others with clean up of your unit and other camp areas.
All other duties and tasks assigned to you by the Director of Camp Experience and / or Director of Teen and Community Education
If qualified and interested, train, successfully pass, and adhere to Lifeguard Training and pool rules
Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
Ability to work well with children of all ages and interests
Ability to work in close proximity with others
