School Based Mentoring Specialist

Job Description

Position Summary

The Mentoring Specialist position is a full-time position responsible for overseeing and supporting children and volunteers through the Enrollment process. This includes interviewing and assessing to determine eligibility and make appropriate matches. This position is also responsible for match support for children and volunteer mentors. The primary function of match support is to provide match support to ensure child safety, positive impacts for youth, constructive and satisfying mentoring relationships between children and volunteers and a strong sense of affiliation with

BBBS on the part of volunteers.

Essential Job Duties

General

- Ensure high-level expertise in applying child safety and risk management knowledge, policies, and procedures throughout all aspects of job function.

- Participate in team and program events throughout the year including team meetings, program activities, program and full staff meetings.

- Assist with recruitment, fundraising, and other agency group events as needed.

- Support a culture of philanthropy by identifying and fostering potential donor relationships, potential corporate/business/community partnerships and engaging in events which benefit the agency.

- Share with CEO or VP of Development potential partnership relationships as discovered through volunteers’ and parents’ employers and affiliations.

- Assist with grant reporting as pertaining to your program area.

- High degree of collaboration with other program staff to ensure smooth transition among functions.

- Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Enrollment

- Assess volunteer eligibility to participate in BBBS programming. Conduct volunteer enrollments including interviews, home visits, and completion of any other enrollment processes.

- Conducts client enrollments including parent/child interviews, child safety education, and other enrollment processes.

- Review and follow-up on references as necessary to gain additional data to complete the assessment process.

- Conduct volunteer and client reassessments/updates as needed/indicated.

- Provide comprehensive assessments for volunteer and child participation. Maintain accurate and timely records for each match according to standards.

- Review enrollment information and assessments and make recommendations for volunteer and child participation in the program based on this information. Assess and apply factors contributing to a successful match. Effectively align volunteer interests and qualifications with service options of agency. Consult with other program team members.

- Work with the Enrollment team to determine matches and facilitate in-person match meetings to set the tone of a successful match with the highest level of customer service. Accommodate volunteer and family schedules.

- Plan and facilitate recurring meetings at local schools with Bigs and Littles

- Collaborate with local schools to build and maintain relationships

- Recruit program participants by implementing and participating in outreach strategies to recruit children and volunteers.

- Provide accurate descriptions of programs and services and convey realistic expectations to interested parties.

- Abide by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s Standards of Practice and Service Delivery Model in all enrollment processes.

Match Support

- Continually assess the match relationship focusing on: child safety, match relationship development, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction. Match support is provided on a frequency according to BBBS standards at a minimum.

- Assess and provide for individual coaching needs, information, and support needs for each match participant to assure a positive youth development experience for the child, and successful and satisfying experience for the volunteer.

- Effectively use active and attentive listening to confirm understanding; coach others using reflective and 2nd/3rd level questioning; personalize communication content and delivery to fit different perspectives, backgrounds, or styles of audience; document information about matches clearly and concisely to keep records accurate and up to date.

- Effectively assess and execute the following relational support skills: guiding, supporting, confronting, advising and/or negotiating.

- Assess and refer families for additional services as needed.

- Conduct closure meetings with matches and assess reasons for match closure and re-match potential.

- Meet or exceed match support goals as set by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

- Engage in quality support and abide by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Standards.

- Effectively utilize survey tools to assess match impact on youth development and in meeting BBBS standards.

Qualifications:

- A Bachelor’s Degree

- Non-Profit Experience preferred

- Valid driver’s license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
