Job Summary
The Community Engagement Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks. This dynamic position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive strategies to drive volunteer recruitment, fund development, and community partnerships. The Specialist will blend marketing, development, and outreach efforts to help ensure the organization’s continued growth, sustainability, and impact in the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Outreach & Volunteer Recruitment
- Cultivate and nurture relationships with individuals, groups, organizations, and businesses to assess and match them with volunteer, donation, or event opportunities that align with the agency’s needs.
- Develop and execute a strategic recruitment plan targeting corporations, service agencies, and community groups to secure long-term volunteer partnerships.
- Host informational sessions for prospective volunteers, providing them with essential knowledge about the agency’s mission and volunteer roles.
- Engage in networking at community events to expand relationships and strengthen the agency’s presence.
- Track recruitment progress, report outcomes, and collaborate with the team to align efforts with the organization’s goals.
- Build and manage a strong Alumni network of Board members, Littles, Bigs, and Donors to foster ongoing engagement.
- Capture and share impactful match stories to enhance outreach and marketing efforts.
Fund Development
- Design and execute a comprehensive, multi-year fund development plan, targeting individual donations, corporate sponsorships, grants, planned giving, and special events.
- Cultivate and maintain strong Impact Partnerships with corporations, groups, and individuals to boost contributions.
- Identify, nurture, and guide prospective major donors, developing a robust pipeline for major gifts.
- Assist with securing event sponsorships and meeting fundraising goals.
- Oversee donor stewardship processes, including thank-you notes, gifts, and tax receipts, ensuring a personalized and engaging experience for all supporters.
- Manage and maintain the agency’s donor software, ensuring accurate tracking of contributions and relationship-building activities.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting for fund development initiatives.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Serve as a key representative for the agency at community events, public speaking engagements, and meetings with stakeholders, advocating for BBBSO’s mission and goals.
- Collaborate with the CEO, staff, and community partners to ensure the success of various initiatives and events.
- Participate in agency meetings, trainings, and events to remain engaged with staff and the community.
Other Responsibilities
- Plan and execute recruitment and marketing events, including quarterly activities, volunteer referral events, and others aimed at increasing engagement and visibility.
- Track and evaluate the success of recruitment and outreach efforts, providing monthly and quarterly progress reports.
- Maintain availability for one-on-one meetings with potential volunteers, presentations, and community events, including evenings and weekends.
- Research and pursue opportunities for match discounts and other resources to benefit volunteers, communicating these opportunities with the VP of Programs.
- Uphold the agency’s mission, values, and customer service standards in all activities and interactions.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the CEO.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Sales, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with donor management software and digital marketing tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience Preferences:
- At least one year of experience in recruitment, fund development, sales, marketing, or a related field.
- Proven success in achieving fundraising and community outreach goals.
