Job Summary
The CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tennessee Valley provides strategic leadership, inspires and engages staff, volunteers, the board of directors, media, and the community to take action in creating long-term positive outcomes on the children and communities we serve. Directs fundraising and communications activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Planning and Execution- Develops and drives the business plan of the organization within the context of the nationwide strategic direction; drives a collaborative process with the Board of Directors and BBBSTV staff. Uses performance metrics and quality indicators to guide operational decision-making.
Board Development- Cultivates a strong & diverse Board of Directors willing to lead and contribute to the fund development success of the organization. Works to assure independent governance oversight and performance accountability of the board and the CEO. Recruits quality board members who will serve with integrity.
Talent Management –Attracts, retains, develops and leverages staff talent. Creates an environment where staff is engaged and performing at high levels. Institutes and utilizes an effective performance management system for all employees that include annual goal setting and evaluation. Ensures that staff receive BBBS agency trainings that make them certified for their positions.
Financial Management – Develops budgets & plans that maximize the financial strength of the agency without adversely affecting other criteria of success (e.g., customer satisfaction, quality of service). Manages the agency financial accounts through QuickBooks. Ensures the agency is protected with the appropriate amount of liability insurance.
Fund Development – Pro-actively ensures that the organization develops strong long-term relationships with large scale individual, foundation and corporate donors/funders. Personally, builds and maintains key relationships to ensure fund development strategy is achieved. Collaborates with the Events & Corporate Relations Specialist to write grants & maximize income.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Program Impact – Ensures that comprehensive marketing strategies are developed to attract, engage and mobilize significant numbers of volunteer mentors. Ensures programmatic excellence and maximum program impact is achieved by following the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America national standards are adopted and implemented while making child safety a priority.
Ambassador and Spokesperson – Represents Big Brothers Big Sisters at external partnership events and with the media. Positively influences partners, the media and public policies to generate volunteers, donors and other resources. Collaborates with the other CEO members of the BBBS Alabama State Association to further the mission & promote BBBS throughout the state. Maintains excellent relations with the staff of BBBS of America.

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Public Relations, Business Management or a related field is required; Graduate level degree preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is usually performed in an office setting; however, work is occasionally performed outside in a variety of weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is usually sedentary with occasional walking; climbing of stairs if elevators are not available, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying objects under 25 pounds or minimal physical activities. Work requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time to operate a personal computer and to perceive and/or discriminate colors, sounds, depth and texture.
