School-Based Coordinator: Part-Time
DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville is seeking a Program Coordinator to join their team in Muskingum County, focusing on the Lunch Buddies Program at local elementary and middle schools in the five county service area (Coshocton, Guernsey, Muskingum, Morgan and Noble Counties). This position is ideal for someone who lives in or has strong ties to the area, and it involves 25-30 hours per week (during the school year, August-May).
Maintains responsibility for successfully implementing volunteer and child enrollment processes in accordance with the Big Brothers Big Sisters brand. Ensures high-level proficiency in applying child safety and risk management knowledge, policies and procedures. Coordinates the School-Based Programs in accordance with Agency and National standards. Regular work schedule includes flexible hours, weekends and evenings to meet client and agency needs.
Position Overview:
Program Type: School-Based Mentoring
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and support one-to-one mentoring relationships between volunteers and students (grades K-8).
- Conduct high-quality programming to meet the needs of the children and schools involved. Perform service delivery functions such as enrollment, volunteer matching, interviewing, and ongoing match support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Child Safety & Risk Management: Apply policies to ensure child safety and risk management in all job functions.
- Volunteer & Client Engagement: Manage volunteer and youth enrollment, including interviews, assessments, and reference checks. Guide volunteers from initial contact through enrollment.
- Matching & Support: Create and facilitate meaningful matches, ensuring they meet safety, developmental, and relational needs.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all interactions, and ensure comprehensive reports on participation and match support.
- Training & Development: Participate in training and attend local, regional, and national conferences to continue professional development.
- Event Participation: Attend three mandatory events throughout the year, which take place on weekends. These events are a critical part of the program and will require weekend availability.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in social work or related field, with 1 to 3 years experience in the child and adult population with assessment, intake or interview experience.
Prior experience working with children and adults, with an understanding of child development and family dynamics. Specific experience with assessments and interviews is preferred. Additionally, strong skills in conflict resolution, the ability to provide positive coaching, and an understanding of trauma-informed care and practices are essential.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and strong communication and relational skills.
- Transportation: Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and meet state-required automobile insurance minimums.
- Knowledge of: BBBS functions, services and processes; community resources available to youth; activities planning; risk factors and influences affecting child development and health; child abuse and neglect recognition and reporting requirements; human service issues and casework functions; basic computer programs and software applications.
- Ability to work independently demonstrating initiative; exercise sound judgment when dealing with youth in stressful situations; exhibit flexibility in work schedule and job tasks; identity and meet the needs of children; demonstrate honesty and good character; coordinate multiple activities and tasks; develop and maintain effective working relationships with children, adults, volunteers, associates, supervisor, job contacts and general public; relate well in multicultural environments; collect meaningful data and draw valid conclusions; maintain confidentiality of non-public and sensitive subject matter; maintain accurate and complete work records; maintain and promote good public relations as agency representative; handle sensitive situations;
Work Environment:
- Office Setting: Routine office environment with frequent travel to program sites and other locations.
- Flexible Hours: Schedule flexibility, with a Monday to Friday workweek. Also, mandatory participation in program activities outside of the school-based setting along with agency fundraising events throughout the year.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay: Starting at $18.00 per hour.

- Work Location: Hybrid remote in Zanesville, OH 43701. This job has some remote work; however, the majority of the work is on-site and in the office.
