Key Responsibilities
- Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
- Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage.
- Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
- Wear all safety gear issued including fluorescent vests, hats and boots.
- Participate in training and staff meetings as required.
Take an active role in participating in the Engineering team, including regular liaison with all team members regarding current projects.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read and speak English
- Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment
- Confident in reading electrical schematics
- Understanding electrical circuits
- Knowledge of air and Hydraulic brakes, trouble shooting and repairs
- Knowledge of suspensions & steering, trouble shooting and repairs
- Computer skills for basic data entry into database
- Ability to use computer to diagnose vehicle systems
- Understanding and ability to use hand tools
- Ability to trouble-shoot and problem solve with a high level of patience
- Strong analytical, electronic and mathematic skills
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- At least 2 years experience as a heavy diesel mechanic/technician preferably with experience working on buses
- Trade school, ASE, mechanical course or equivalent highly a plus
- Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required
- D.O.T inspection experience preferred
- Must possess a valid driver's license, CDL preferred
- Flexible schedule (including weekends)

- Employee will be exposed during a shift to constant or intermittent sounds at a level sufficient to cause hearing loss or fatigue.
- Employee will be subject to high and low temperatures that result in significant body discomfort.
- Employee will be exposed to dusts, fumes, vapors, or mists that could affect the occupational health of the employee.
Physical Considerations:
- Employee will often be exposed to whole body vibrations.
- Employee will be exposed to working inside various types of vehicles and equipment while repairing them.
- Employee will sometimes be exposed to hazardous equipment, situations, and conditions.
- Employee must work in a variety of lighting conditions, from dim to bright.
- Job requires employee to sometimes stand for long periods or lie in awkward positions to repair equipment. Occasionally must climb to high places to reach parts of equipment.
- Job requires lifting, carrying or pushing/pulling up to 80 lbs.
- Class A diesel mechanic.
- At least 2 years experience as a heavy diesel mechanic preferably with experience working on buses
- Must have D.O.T inspection experience
- CDL preferred
- Flexible schedule (including weekends)
