Components Designer
Big C Lumber in Dowagiac, MI is currently seeking a Components Designer . This is a full-time , day shift position with benefits.
Component Designer Essential Responsibilities :
Primary role for this position is structural design using CAD based software
Provide technical assistance for any products Big C offers
Build and maintain relations with builders, salespersons, vendors, designers, and management
Observe the Mission Statement, Value Statement, Service Promise and Safety Program
Promote safety in all areas of influence
Promote a positive image of the Big C Lumber Drafting & Structural Design Department
Use design tools and software applications to produce structural framing layouts for floor, roof, and wall systems
Provide design calculations for single structural members (EWP, Dimensional Lumber, Steel, Timber Beams, Columns, etc.)
Provide design or overview on required Engineered Wood Product Repairs
Troubleshoot jobsite issues
Maintain knowledge of, and contact with, regional code requirements and code officials
Conduct promotional and educational meetings with sales personnel
Maintain the department's intranet website
Consult with Big C's in house design service
Consult with builders and salespersons on structural and code related issues
Manage and track department's provided services using Microsoft tools
Communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively with employees, management, customers, and suppliers
Perform any special assignment / projects as required by the Operations Manager
Asset preservation
Adherence to all safety and fire regulations and anti-theft procedures
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Communication skills to explain highly technical information to non-technical audiences
Experience in basic design or construction framing practices
Strong aptitude for working in a high-pressure customer focused culture
Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills
Excellent planning and organization skills
High level of initiative and motivation
Commitment to continuous education and improvement
Knowledge of roof truss design and application
General knowledge of International Residential Code (IRC)
Ability to use conversion tables and measurement scale
Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy
Detail oriented
Ability to research information and products through the internet and other resources
