Job Overview:
The Assistant Store Manager at Big League Car Wash is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the store and ensuring a smooth, efficient, and profitable business environment. The role involves managing a dynamic team, ensuring excellent customer service, handling operational tasks, and maintaining high-quality wash standards. The Assistant Store Manager will be responsible for managing labor, addressing customer concerns, driving sales, and ensuring that all backroom and equipment-related issues are handled efficiently. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform both administrative and hands-on tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Labor Management: Efficiently manage daily labor needs, adjusting shift schedules based on weather reports and expected business levels, ensuring all team members clock in and out as required.
- Team Development: Document and celebrate team members' successes and achievements, offering constructive feedback for continuous improvement. Foster a positive, results-driven environment.
- Training: Utilize downtime for team member training and development. Ensure team members are trained in all relevant areas, from wash operations to customer service, using the available resources outlined in Trainual.
- Staffing: Ensure that all team members take breaks and lunches at optimal times to maintain smooth operations, adhering to labor guidelines and CPH (Cars Per Hour) chart.
Sales & Customer Relations:
- Sales Driving: Work with the Store Manager to drive sales and maximize revenue through upselling and promoting the car wash's services and packages.
- Customer Experience: Provide exceptional customer service and handle customer issues related to wash quality, de-escalating any concerns or complaints professionally. Ensure customers leave satisfied with their experience.
- Damage Claims: Handle damage claims related to car washes in accordance with company procedures, ensuring claims are processed or escalated to leadership as required.
- Customer Accounts: Assist customers with setting up and managing fleet/house accounts and resolve any issues related to their accounts.
Operational Excellence & Maintenance:
- Able to identify and troubleshoot issues with car wash tunnel equipment, including:
- Identifying a failing hydraulic motor, tripped electric motor, or broken bearing.
- Repairing air/chemical lines and hydraulic hoses using quick connects.
- Performing regular checks and maintenance on equipment and identifying potential issues like malfunctioning water pumps or air compressors.
- Adjusting wrap and soap timings via Tunnel Watch to ensure optimal wash quality.
- Keeping the tunnel operating smoothly through consistent checks and adjustments.
- Back Room Operations: Oversee the daily operational maintenance of backroom equipment, ensuring it aligns with manufacturer guidelines (clean filters, check belts, hoses, and leaks). Be able to perform power cycles on compressors and troubleshoot issues in the equipment room.
- Chemical and Water Management: Ensure that all chemicals are properly stocked, and swap out chemical barrels as needed. Maintain knowledge of water, air, and electrical systems in the Hydra-Flex board, ensuring that any issues are promptly addressed.
Technical & Software Competence:
- Point of Sale (POS): Learn to be proficient in the point of sale (POS) system and train team members on its use. Ensure accurate transactions and assist in processing sales.
- Site Watch: Learn to use the Site Watch Web Sale Viewer to manage refunds, manager’s comps, rewashes, and add vehicles to house/fleet accounts.
- Site Manager: Be proficient in adding new hires into Site Manager and perform basic troubleshooting of the TCS station.
- Performance Metrics: Review conversion rates and ARM % to track performance, ensuring operational targets are met.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Flexibility: Be prepared to fill in for any role or take on extra duties as necessary due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., team member absence).
- Dependability: Consistently work up to 45 hours per week, with availability for nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Scheduling: Ensure the team's schedule aligns with business needs, adjusting labor levels based on demand.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role in a retail or service-oriented business. Experience in the car wash industry is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and identify mechanical and electrical issues within the car wash tunnel and equipment. Must be comfortable using POS software, Site Watch, and Site Manager software.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with team members, customers, and upper management.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to handle customer complaints or issues with professionalism, de-escalating conflicts effectively and maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including performing manual tasks, standing for long periods, and lifting when necessary.
- Availability: Open availability for nights, weekends, and holiday shifts, with the ability to work up to 45 hours per week consistently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of car wash operations and equipment.
- Previous experience in a high-volume service environment.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and motivate a team under pressure.
