Qualification
The Indirect Tax Analyst ensures law and GAAP compliance (and related accruals, variances, and trend analyses) for indirect tax (including but not limited to sales and use tax, personal and real property taxes, and unclaimed funds). The Tax Analyst will assist/lead with the resolution of audits/reviews of filed returns, and provide recommendations based on audit/review results.
- Reviews and maintains calendar of indirect tax reporting deadlines and compliance requirements.
- Compiles, reconciles, and analyzes the data to be used in preparation of indirect tax returns; prepares required returns and related attachments utilizing tax software and other methodologies as required by taxing authorities.
- Reviews contracts and other transactions/acquisitions for sales/use tax implications.
- Prepares sales & use tax and property tax account reconciliations, accruals and monthly standard journal entries.
- Reviews and prepares personal property tax bills for payment.
- Analyzes personal property assessment notices and determines candidates for appeal.
- Researches and resolves indirect tax billing issues and errors with taxing authorities.
- Compiles, reconciles, and analyzes the data used in preparation of returns for indirect tax; prepares and files state returns and related support information necessary to maintain compliance with state standards.
- Communicates with external payees and internal departments to complete and document all due diligence requirements and coordinate the processing of individual or state unclaimed funds payments.
- Researches and analyzes changes in regulations for unclaimed funds and personal property tax filings.
- Prepares general ledger account reconciliations and supporting documents for personal property, unclaimed funds. and certain real estate-owned property; analyzes, documents, and concisely articulates drivers for significant variations.
- Prepares, coordinates and reviews personal property tax, unclaimed funds, and sales and use tax audits. Including communication with auditors, preparation and reconciliation of requested data, review of audit proposals, challenging potential assessments and conducting reverse examinations.
- Assists and prepares appeals of personal or real property tax valuations and billings.
- Assists and prepares indirect tax abatements, refunds, exclusions, and exemptions.
- Analyzes, recommends, and implements initiatives to streamline indirect tax processes.
- Ensures accuracy of the POS & eCommerce retail sales tax information through merchandise hierarchy.
- Maintain accurate sales and use tax compliance through the maintenance of the sales tax software application.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.
- 1 - 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Strong skill in written and verbal communication required.
- Strong skill in attending to detail and organization of work projects required.
- Ability to communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders in a responsible, professional manner required.
- Ability to work independently required. Ability to manage competing priorities and is deadline driven.
- Highly proficient in data analysis and technology. Experience with OneSource, UPCS, SAP, SAP BI/BW, BEX Analyzer, OnBase, and Essbase preferred.
- Advanced Data management, utilizing various tools power pivot, Alteryx etc. Ability to manage the PriceHold database and other data bases that are in development.
- Ability to use internet to locate on-line forms, research changes in compliance requirements and tax assessments required.
- Ability to review and analyze state/county law changes to unclaimed funds and report to management potential changes in property class or other reporting requirements with proposed solutions.
- Vertex O-Series sales and use tax application experience preferred.
- Vertex Sales Tax Return application experience preferred.
