What are the responsibilities and job description for the Orton Park Summer Camp Director position at Big Oak Child Care Center?
The Summer Camp Director oversees the daily operations of Orton Park Camp on site. This person floats from group to group when additional supervision is needed. The Director also acts as the on-site Heath Supervisor and is responsible for the health supervision at Orton Park Camp. We offer training for this portion of the position, so no previous experience as Health Supervisor is needed. The Director reports to Big Oak Childcare's Program Director.
Duties
Job Duties:
Implement activities that model and promote the:
- Orton Park Camp Mission, Values, and Philosophy
- Orton Park Camp Policy, State Licensing and City Accreditation Criteria
Prepare with Program Leads:
- Session theme activities
- Coordinate activities for small and large groups
- Weekly experiences
Field Trips:
- Serve as the point of contact between counselors and field sites
- Coordinate transition of group leaders and campers on field trips
- Maintains the safety of children and puts accountability measures in place to ensure all children's locations are known
Activities:
- Incorporate outdoor learning opportunities into daily activities
- Maintain a balance of teacher and child-initiated experiences
- Lead counselors to identify and develop appropriate learning plans for children as needed
- Provide input on consumable materials and equipment to the Program Director
Family Communication:
- Communicate with parents/guardians on a daily basis through face to face conversations and through BrightWheel, our communication app
- Discuss positive behaviors and concerns in a constructive manner
- Concerns are to be addressed privately in a timely, professional manner
- Meet with families at their request
- Review parent log and BrightWheel messages for any notes or changes regarding the daily routines of the children. Communicate with families of any weather changes or location changes.
Staff Communication:
- Communicate and lead counselors regarding program, staff, and children
- Review staff log and BrightWheel messages for any notes or changes regarding the daily routine
- Call Program Director at least 1 hour prior to shift when ill
- Handle matters on the level at which they occur
- Delegate tasks as needed
- Coordinate weekly staff meeting
Record keeping:
- Maintain children's daily attendance in BrightWheel
- Maintain Camp Binder with up to date information and forms
- Ensure medication forms are accessible and completed correctly by families
- Record medications dispensed and injuries in appropriate logbooks
- Complete accident/incident reports
- Review and sign Medical and Accident Log Books on a monthly basis
- Oversee daily responsibilities of the operations of camp and group leaders.
The Camp Director leads the camp staff in their summer adventures. This requires the ability to coach/mentor staff under their care, supporting an engaging and uplifting team environment. Experience managing/supervising is a must.
Create and implement camp lesson plans.
Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Have one of the following: The Wisconsin Afterschool and Youth Development Credential or bachelor's degree in outdoor education, recreation, coaching, juvenile justice, social work, psychology, child development, or education or another camp-related field. Or 2 or more years of supervisory or administrative experience in an organzied camp or children's program.
Be available for online and in person training prior to camp starting.
Commit to the 10 week summer program.
Be available to assist in camp set up and take down.
Background Checks and Fingerprints done during on boarding.
