Position Description

Big Picture Philadelphia is seeking a dedicated Long-Term Building Substitute to provide both classroom instruction and school climate and culture support based on the daily needs of the school community. This temporary position, running through June 2025, will report directly to the building administrator and play a key role in maintaining a supportive and engaging learning environment for students. Key Responsibilities:

• Classroom Support:
• Provide instruction and supervision in classrooms, covering a range of subjects as needed.
• Implement lesson plans developed by teachers and ensure continuity of learning for students.
• Offer individualized and small-group support to reinforce instruction and student engagement.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
• Support the development of a strong, supportive small learning community within their advisory and celebrate students’ accomplishments.
• Assist with small-group work and provide individualized academic support when needed.
• Support the development, planning, and execution of meaningful projects aligned with their interests and academic goals.
• School Climate & Culture Support:
• Foster strong relationships with students and serve as a mentor and role model.
• Facilitate smooth transitions at the start and end of the school day.
• Assist teachers in the establishment and execution of classroom rules and procedures that support teaching and learning.
• Enforce the Code of Student Conduct and all District policies and procedures.
• Intervene to minimize potential conflicts between students and prevent the escalation of situations.
• Reinforce appropriate behavior with individual students.
• Monitor student behavior during unstructured time.
• Maintaining a positive and inclusive school culture by supporting student behavior expectations and restorative practices.
• Support the supervision of common areas, transitions, and school events as needed.
• Collaborate with school staff to address student needs and provide additional support where necessary.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field is required.
• PA Teacher Certification or Emergency Certification is required. If you complete the hiring process and obtain an emergency certification, you can be reimbursed up to $100 for the cost.
• Experience working with high school students in an educational or mentorship setting.
• Ability to build strong relationships with students and support their academic and personal growth.
• Flexibility to adapt to various classroom settings and school needs daily.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.

Pay: $25.00 per hour
