What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Manager - Headquarters position at Big R Stores?
The Purchasing Manager will oversee all operational aspects for a variety of departments including Men’s, ladies, kids’ footwear & apparel, clothing accessories, sporting goods shooting, outdoors and automotive departments for the 37 existing retail stores.
This is not a remote position; all work is done from Big R’s home office in Pueblo, CO.
Responsibilities:
- Developing procurement strategies that align with business goals and objectives.
- Oversee and identify any products, services and equipment to be purchased.
- Verifying the key suppliers for each procurement based on factors such as price and quality. Ensuring that bought stocks meets company standards.
- Monitoring and forecasting inventory, determining purchasing needs and identify costs.
- Overseeing daily activities of the purchasing department, including delegating tasks and supervising 5 buyers and assistant buyers.
- Managing procurement multimillion dollar budget and preparing cost estimates.
- Compiling and maintaining purchase records, supplier databases and procurement contracts.
- Strong ability to calculate gross margin, OTB and Turn ratio.
- Dynamic leader with great energy and the ability to teach, train and motivate others.
- Goal driven with a proven track record of meeting goals and driving revenue.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or 3 years buyer, retail management, or category experience.
- Extensive Knowledge of Men’s, Ladies and kids’ apparel, and sporting goods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and problem solve.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and good judgement.
- Detail oriented and self-motivated.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be a team player.
- Domestic travel as needed. Up to 30 nights a year.
