Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Log Yard Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the log yard operations, ensuring efficient handling, storage, and processing of logs. This role is critical to our production process and requires attention to detail, safety awareness, and teamwork. This position is second shift which is 3 pm-12:30 a.m.
Key Responsibilities:
- Log Handling: Operate heavy machinery, including forklifts and log loaders, to move and stack logs safely and efficiently within the log yard.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of log inventory, including species, quantities, and conditions, ensuring proper tracking and reporting.
- Quality Control: Inspect incoming logs for quality and compliance with specifications, identifying any defects or issues that may affect production.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, conducting regular safety inspections of equipment and work areas to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, reporting any major issues to the maintenance team promptly.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with sawmill operators and other team members to coordinate log delivery schedules and ensure smooth operations.
- Environmental Stewardship: Follow best practices for environmental sustainability, including waste management and responsible resource use.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or training in log handling or heavy machinery operation preferred.
- Previous experience in a log yard or sawmill environment is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of safety practices in industrial settings.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
- Good physical fitness and stamina, capable of lifting heavy materials.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.
