Quality Control Technician
Position Summary
Carthage Forest Products is seeking a Quality Control Technician in Carthage, Arkansas. The Quality Control Technician will be reviewing and ensuring that all products are evaluated through efficiency of manufacturing technologies, instruments, equipment, and tools. The QC will follow through with a variety of checks and controls that include but are not limited to check sheet monitoring, data collection, machine calibration and cleaning, and quality testing on various products throughout the sawmill.
Essential duties, Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the ability to identify manufacturing and non-manufacturing defects relative to the department that the employee is assigned to.
- Ability to perform all quality audits in the respective department that the employee is assigned to.
- Become familiar with the manufacturing process and machine nomenclature respective to the allotted department.
- Perform cleaning tasks for all scanners, lasers, light curtains, and any other components relative to optimization or size control in the respective department that the employee is entrusted to.
- Ability to communicate with department supervisors effectively to induce mill downtime to correct quality deficiencies.
- Ability to troubleshoot and suggest corrective action to operators and leadership to correct quality deficiencies in the respective designated department.
- Identify areas that need process control optimization.
- Evaluate the efficiency of manufacturing technologies, instruments, equipment, and tools.
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance methods and systems to reduce unscheduled downtime and utilize reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure production volume, quality and overall uptime goals are met.
- Use preventive maintenance systems to reduce unscheduled downtime.

- Communicate with all levels of management on root cause analysis, incident investigations, and training.
- Actively manage and reduce downtime through quick analysis of options and orchestrating solutions.

- Manage lumber quality and grade quality to maximize value.
- Recognize and correct production, quality, and grade issues.
- Focus on continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, customer requirements, and product quality.
Education/ Experience/ Certification/ Licenses
- High school diploma
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a sawmill/manufacturing facility.
- Experience in optimization technology (cleaning and calibrating optimization scanners).
- Strong computer skillset with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Detailed practical knowledge of lumber grading rules and practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment Manufacturing Plant Physical Demands
- The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise levels are moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Lifting and physical activity is required for this position, must be able to move boards and wood pieces. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
