What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager 1, BRS position at Big River Steel LLC?
Objective of the Job:
This position will be responsible for working with the other members of the accounting department in creating accurate and timely financial information for the organization. As current team members focus on implementing the new software, this position will keep the day-to-day activities running smoothly. The duties can range from treasury functions, to cost accounting, to journal entries, to closing the books. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of and understand a wide range of accounting related responsibilities, to learn how Big River Steel pushed the boundaries, even in how it manages accounting information. Because of the accelerated timeline for software implementation, this position must hit the ground running and is expected to contribute significantly from the first day on the job.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Oversight of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality programs and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel requirements; follow BRS directives and comply with regulatory requirements within scope of responsibility.
2) Has a broad knowledge of accounting expertise and can apply that expertise in various functions
3) Strong business savvy and acumen
4) Ensures accounting positions are booked timely and accurately
5) Technically savvy and thorough understanding of GAAP
6) Participates in month-end closings
7) Prepares information suitable for public filings
8) Has an appreciation for and understands Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
9) Coordinates and prepares pertinent information for the management team and auditors
10) Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance overall efficiency 11) Assists in special projects as needed
Qualifications:
1) Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. CPA or MBA preferred
2) A thorough understanding of GAAP
3) Prior experience with manufacturing companies
4) Experience with public companies a plus
5) 6 years of relevant and progressive experience in general accounting, cost accounting, and preparation of financial statements in a manufacturing environment
6) Communication proficiency
7) Collaboration skills
8) Embrace change and flexibility
9) Experience with Great Plains Software a plus
10) Steel mill experience
11) The ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
12) Initiative
13) The ability to work under limited supervision
14) Able to manage numerous projects at a time
