Objective of the Job:
Product Quality Engineer is to support Product Development and Quality Group in dispositioning of coils, identification of material quality defects, reapplication of disposition coils, assist in product certification and actively supports equipment readiness for Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1)Ensure Safety as a top priority, adhere to Environmental, Quality requirements and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel requirements.
2)Ensure a sound knowledge of IOM metallurgy and L3 process instructions as required for new and existing grades and routings.
3)Disposition coils to ensure order compliance and customer satisfaction for support to scheduling and customer lead times.
4)Assist in reapplication of coils for increasing prime sales.
5)Support Product Development and Quality group on new grade development and qualifications.
6)Assist in internal reject minimization and customer claim investigations.
7)Work with Lead Plant Quality Engineer for equipment readiness and verify onsite analytical equipment in accordance with On-site Laboratory Scope and Controls and support laboratory functions as needed.
8)Assist with the coordination and preparation of sample submission packages from operational units.
9)Support investigation of Product Quality Issues and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
10)Assist with sample preparation for metallurgical analysis in SEM, Auto Lab.
11)Support product audits as needed.
Qualifications:
1) Degree in Industrial Engineering/Mechanical/Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering or equivalent,
OR
Associate degree in Production Engineering/Industrial engineering/Materials Engineering or equivalent with at least 3 years of industrial working experience,
OR
At least 10 years of Steel Industry working experience after high school diploma
2) Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization
3) Strong computer skills for IOM and L3 and other production system
4) Understanding of product defects and process controls
5) Knowledge and experience in Steel CSP Mills - Mini Mills
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and
dusty/greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the production environment and the ability to routinely climb, lift and move heavy objects during shift may be required.
This position can and will be indoor and outdoor work with expected environmental conditions.
This position can require long hours, weekend, and holiday coverage to support routine responsibilities, working remotely, and travel.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
