HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNICIAN
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages incoming digital faxes, including requests for medication refills, discharge summaries (hospitals, emergency department visits, and inpatient stays) and requests from durable medical equipment companies.
- Reviews faxes and assigns them to applicable patient record by category of information.
- Forwards faxes to nursing or appropriate provider.
- Performs referral tracking functions, which include making appointments, sending requests for records, sending follow-up letters and changing the status of the referral.
- Other duties and responsibilities as directed or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least three (3) years of health information experience, or an associate’s degree and two (2) years of health information experience.
- Health care experience may include medical records, clinical care, or information technology.
- A certification or associate’s degree in a health care field is desirable.
- Specialized training in the acquisition, transmission, storage, and retrieval of health care information is required.
