What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Manager position at Big Sandy Health Care, Inc.?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overall direct supervision of nursing staff. Reviews and/or approves nursing and radiology requests for time off.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Nursing, Human Resources and/or other Management staff, develops disciplinary action plans as indicated/appropriate.
- Conducts employee annual performance evaluations as indicated.
- Attends management team meetings and other meetings as required.
- Assists in development of care protocols, keys measures, and standards of care.
- Assists with establishment of program goals and objectives for patient care and management.
- Engages patient and patients’ family in the developing of health care strategies aimed at improving quality of life thru education, empowerment and access to appropriate health care services.
- Monitors trends and implements strategies to assist patients with accessing appropriate level of care.
- Assists in implementing team-directed improvements by using and teaching others the PDSA change model.
- Participants in team directed activities such as daily huddles.
- Develops and conducts staff training as appropriate and necessary, to include introduction of new equipment, policies and procedures and all electronic patient care and practice management systems.
- Monitors patient electronic medical record and produces reports as requested.
- Follows data entry requirements based on BSHC protocol and policy.
- Tracks and reports established key measures for disease management, referrals and preventive care.
- Attends internal and external meetings as requested to accomplish patient care management program goals.
- Actively participates in performance improvement activities and a serves on the QI/Performance Improvement Committee as requested.
- Manages triage of walk-in patients.
- Responds to patient telephone calls (during and after office hours) based on BSHC policy.
- Performs after-hours on call duties as schedule indicates.
- Instructs patients regarding health promotion, lifestyle modification, disease prevention, self-care necessary for certain conditions, and proper medication usage.
- Reviews and explains further diseases patient may be diagnosed with.
- Coordinates patient flow through clinic.
- Provides nursing care according to the Kentucky Registered Nurse Scope of Practice
- Performs prenatal workups (if applicable).
- Adheres to the terms and conditions set forth in BSHC’s corporate compliance program.
- Ensures confidential information in accordance with BSHC’s policy and current HIPAA regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky.
- Previous management and supervision experience preferred.
- Previous experience in pediatrics.
- Previous experience in Primary Care, ER or Med/Surg. preferred.
- BLS, ACLS & PALS certified.
- Proven communication skills, both verbal and written.
