Overview: The primary focus of the Outdoor Garden Sales position is assisting customers with plant and garden related questions. The Outdoor Garden Sales position also assists in ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers and takes an active role in stocking, inventory, and plant maintenance. This position reports directly to the Garden Center Location Manager and Garden Center Supervisor.
Qualifications
Minimum education requirements:
- Completion of Master Gardener Program and/or proven aptitude in landscape plants and their care.
- Continuing education in landscape horticulture.
- Score 90% or better on Garden Center Test.
Minimum experience requirements:
- At least 3 years of experience working with the public.
Position Requirements:
- Able to follow specific instructions and perform duties given by the Garden Center Manager and Outdoor Plant Specialist Lead.
- Skill in establishing priorities and managing both workload and time wisely.
- Able to communicate respectfully with coworkers and customers.
Essential Job Functions:
- Customer service; e.g. dispensing information, answering questions and helping customers make the appropriate buying decision.
- Able to problem solve and suggest the appropriate course of action.
- Assist in up-keep of plant material e.g. stocking, watering, fertilizing, cleaning of foliage, deadheading and pruning.
- Respond to radio and store pages.
- Assist in maintain plant health e.g. proper watering, pruning, fertilizer and pest control.

- Ability to work on feet (for long periods of time) outside, and in various elements.
