What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Estimator position at Big West Oil?
Do you want to be an integral part of capital project and portfolio success? How about providing accurate cost estimates throughout the life cycle of capital projects? How about tracking and analyzing project changes keeping project on the right path?
As a Project Estimator you’ll work as part of a team to develop detailed cost estimates during all phases of a project – from the engineering phase as well as for each scope change throughout the project life cycle. You’ll work hand in hand with the project services team to continually keep the project costs realistically forecast and recorded.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Estimate labor requirements, required project equipment, supplies, contracted services, costs; prepare cost estimates and monitor expenditures.
• Prepare estimates for proposed change orders and updates project plans and estimates with new information on change order approval.
• With the rest of the Project Services group and the Project Managers, work to accurately forecast costs of proposed projects.
• Build systems to enhance organizational estimating capability.
• Maintain estimating databases and integrate these databases with the enterprise project control tools.
• Integrate estimates with project schedules to achieve phased timing of costs and resources.
• Support Project Services and Project Managers on quantitative risk assessments; provide inputs and analysis for prediction of project cost and resource risk.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with customers and vendors.
• Previous demonstrated experience in project cost and resource estimating.
• High-level numeracy and familiarity with accounting and finance processes.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under stress.
• Exposure to and general understanding of risk management tools and techniques.
• Familiarity with enterprise project control tools.
Qualifications
• A minimum of two to five years of estimating experience in a related environment.
• Proficiency with relevant computer applications.
• High school graduate (minimum) or two-year degree with courses in accounting for entry-level Estimator.
• Project management courses desirable; PMP required for advancement.
• Experience working in a cross-functional team.
