As a Project Execution Team Lead, you’ll work with project engineers/managers and project teams to help them grow in the practice of the profession. You’ll be skilled at teaching and coaching project participants. You’ll specialize in helping to put in place processes, skills, and support structures to effectively establish and manage projects. You’ll develop, mentor, and guide program managers, project managers, project engineers, program/project teams, and corporate managers. You’ll be well versed in leading and managing program/project team members from diverse backgrounds, and within on and off-site settings. In a program/project crisis, you could be called in to fill in for an extended period for an unexpected absence of the project manager/engineer. You’ll play an important role in standardizing the practice of agreed-upon methodology, in building a project management culture, and in socializing the project management ways throughout the organization by troubleshooting projects.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be an experienced and highly skilled senior project or program manager with superior or advanced interpersonal skills. You’ll report to the Director of Capital Projects and works closely with the Project Services Lead and the Construction Services Lead to assist the entire Capital Projects staff in professional development or to effectively deliver enterprise or department programs/projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Serve as a subject matter expert for project management processes and tools
• Work closely with or supervise team members in the development of project management processes and tools
• Offer consulting support to new and ongoing initiatives
• Work closely with Project Manager/Engineers and the Project Services group to ensure that all projects are managed using corporate accepted tools, techniques and processes
• Serve as a senior advisor on project management issues enterprise wide
• Provide vision and direction for strategic planning within the Capital Projects department and across the enterprise
• Provide advice, counsel, and mentoring to program and project managers/engineers
• Provide conflict resolution to troubled projects
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Superior/advanced competency in project management processes
• Full proficiency with project management tools
• Excellent counselling, facilitation, conflict resolution, and interviewing skills
• Provide visionary leadership to the Capital Projects Department
• Skilled at interna/external consulting and relationship management
• Well-versed in industry and in organizational politics
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or a discipline related to industry; advanced degree in a business specialty or project management is desirable
• Extensive experience (ten or more years) in the management of projects, including demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects or programs on time and within budget
• Extensive experience in relevant industry area and understanding of strategic issues that impact the company and project management
• Three years of experience managing project managers
• Certification, education, or experience in human resource management helpful
• PMP or other project management certification
• Experience with relevant enterprise project management and enterprise financial software
• Demonstrated success in the mentoring or management of other project managers or other experience on a management level within a project office
• Experience with the implementation of project management and process improvement in an organization, including implementation of standards or processes
• Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to diverse groups of people
• Demonstrated ability working with clients, vendors, and government regulators
