Summary
Our client is a rapidly growing, for profit, multi-location education provider in San Antonio, Texas. They are private equity backed, and are desiring to add a Controller to the strong accounting team in place. This is a role that will be involved with most facets of the accounting and finance process and will assist with due diligence as new facilities are considered to be added to the portfolio. This is a dynamic, growing organization that needs to hire a dedicated accountant looking for an opportunity to jump in and enjoy the growth!
The Controller plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health of the organization as it executes an aggressive growth plan across new regions and states. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including corporate and operational accounting, regulatory compliance, financial and operational reporting, and internal control processes. Working at the corporate office, the Controller partners with the Vice President of Finance and Administration and other leadership to support strategic decision-making and scalable operations.
Essential Functions
Financial Management:
o Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
o Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
o Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions, including management of federal, state and local subsidy programs.
o Develop and maintain financial systems and processes that align with the company’s growth strategy.
o Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the board of directors
o Coordinate integration of new acquisitions and greenfield launches into reporting infrastructure
o Manage annual financial statement audit with external auditors
o Coordinate preparation of all tax returns with external tax advisors
o Manage and control capital expenditure programs
o Support ad-hoc analysis and reporting requests
Budgeting & Forecasting:
o Lead the annual budgeting process, including forecasting for all locations.
o Monitor, analyze, and report budget variances, providing actionable insights to management.
· Compliance & Internal Controls:
o Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
o Develop and enforce internal control policies to safeguard company assets.
o Serve as the primary liaison for external audits and financial reviews.
Cash Flow & Risk Management:
o Manage cash flow to support operational and expansion needs, including maintenance of 13-week cash forecasts.
o Perform risk assessments related to new acquisitions and expansion projects.
· Team Leadership:
o Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
o Support recruitment and onboarding of finance personnel as the company scales.
· Strategic Collaboration:
o Partner with the Vice President of Finance and Administration on strategic initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, and capital structuring.
o Collaborate with operations and regional managers to align financial goals with business objectives.
Work Environment
The position is based at the corporate office, operating during standard business hours, Monday to Friday. This is a hybrid position after a training period and will work in office 3 days/week and 2 days from home.
Required Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· CPA certification desirable.
· 7 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
· Proven leadership experience in a multi-location or franchising environment.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
· Proficiency in financial software/ERP environments (e.g. Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Excel.
· Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
· Experience in the education sector desirable.
· Experience supporting high-growth organizations or businesses.
Salary : $100,000 - $125,000
