Operations Manager (Bighorn Traffic Services)

The Operations Manager provides overall direction to the project managers and guidance to the operational activities of the area. Providing day to day leadership and management to the company operations functions. Promotes a highly respectful, ethical, and safe place to work.

The Operations Manager will help to increase profit in all locations within the region by managing controllable operational costs. While upholding our Core Values, the Operations Manager will improve processes and procedures to positively impact company goals.

Whitaker Construction LLC, founded in 1953, has over 67 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. Bighorn Traffic Services is a sister company of Whitaker Construction. We perform a variety of trades including sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, telecommunication projects as well as Traffic Control primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.

Core Responsibilities:

· Provide Leadership to operations area, demonstrating knowledge, experience and maturity through the management and execution of goals and objectives for accomplishing projects inside the region.

· Ensure revenue and profit expectations (per identified plans/budgets) are achieved

· Responsible for all aspects of regional Traffic Control Operations, to include: Dispatch & Scheduling, Customer Service, Field Operations, and Branch Management.

· Establish and manage the goals and objectives of each project. Support proper utilization of personnel and equipment.

· Develop strategies to support subcontract, and change order negotiations are in alignment with business initiatives and objectives.

· Adhere to performance goals, operations reviews project reviews, and formal auditing processes (Project QA plans, OQ requirements, pre-plans, project plans, post job reviews, etc.)

· Work closely with team members to ensure all locations within the region are properly equipped and that TC equipment is properly maintained.

· Engage in targeted employee coaching to improve employee owner performance and attitude.

· Oversee performance reviews and work with HR team to conduct investigations as needed.

· Assess competency of direct reports and ensures development requirements are in place and being actively managed.

· Ensure safety systems are being actively managed and producing continuous improvement to eliminate unsafe conditions and behaviors.

· Communicate safety goals with team.

· Ensure safety is operationalized/ integrated in all work, constantly driving to make sure best practices are identified and shared across the organization.

· Manage relationships with existing customers and leverage to acquire potential “new” customers.

· Responsible for participating in the development and execution of business strategies with other Area Managers and/or Senior Leadership.

· Responsible for developing and executing specific strategies that advance Bighorn’s market position in an assigned region.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

· A minimum of four (4) years construction management experience required.

· Previous leadership of an assigned area with Profit & Loss responsibly is required.

· Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

· Skills needed include leadership, problem solving, decision making and organization.

· Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors and internal and external customers.

Physical Requirements:

· Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.

· Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.

· Ability to travel to project sites that are typically within a 2-hour radius of the home office.

· Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
