Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with diverse learning needs in a classroom setting. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide support to students in various activities, including academic lessons, social skills development, and daily living skills.
- Foster a positive and encouraging environment that promotes student engagement and participation.
- Help students with literacy education, focusing on reading and writing skills tailored to their individual needs.
- Collaborate with teachers to adapt instructional materials and methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers regarding student performance.
- Support children with autism or other developmental challenges by employing effective communication strategies.
- Utilize American Sign Language or other communication methods as needed to assist students in expressing their thoughts and needs.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
Requirements
- Experience working with children, particularly in a preschool or special education setting.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and practices.
- Familiarity with Montessori methods or similar educational philosophies is preferred.
- Understanding of literacy education strategies and techniques.
- Experience working with students who have IEPs or specific learning disabilities is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being able to take initiative when necessary.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational journey of children with special needs.
