What we are looking for
We currently have an opportunity for a senior Power BI Developer to join our team & work alongside a leading Australian government organisation. This is an initial 3 month contract (with strong potential to extend).
Hybrid working model, 1-2 days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop high-impact Power BI dashboards with a strong focus on user experience (UX), clarity, and visual storytelling.
- Translate complex, multi-source datasets into intuitive, interactive reports that support executive decision-making and public-facing communications.
- Apply best-practice UX principles to ensure dashboards are not only visually impressive but also highly usable, accessible, and responsive.
- Build advanced features such as:

- Seamless navigation through bookmarks and buttons
- Dynamic filtering and slicers
- Custom tooltips, pop-up info boxes, and guided interactivity
- Drill-through and drill-down capabilities
- Geospatial maps and layered visuals
- Work closely with stakeholders to capture requirements and iterate designs based on feedback from senior executives and non-technical users.
- Ensure consistent branding, layout, colour schemes, and typography aligned with agency standards.
- Optimise performance across large datasets to ensure dashboards are fast, stable, and scalable.
- Document dashboard design logic and support knowledge transfer to internal teams.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience designing executive-grade dashboards in Power BI with a strong focus on UI/UX design.
- Demonstrated ability to create visually engaging, interactive dashboards that balance design and function.
- Expertise in Power BI features including DAX, Power Query (M), bookmarks, buttons, themes, tooltips, and custom visuals.
- Strong design sensibility, with attention to layout, hierarchy, accessibility, and responsive design across devices.
- Experience applying user-centred design principles to analytics solutions.
- Proven ability to work with large, complex datasets and optimise data models for performance.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly in engaging with senior and non-technical stakeholders.
