PURPOSE/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Responsible for developing and maintaining computerized optimal routing solutions and schedules following established guidelines. The “ideal” candidate for this role will be detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated. To excel in this role, you must have the ability to streamline processes by working collaboratively with other department stakeholders, maintain a strong system of communication, and work as a team with other transportation staff members. The ability to build strong relationships with all departments within the district is essential.
The following description outlines the role and its alignment with BILLINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT 02’s Mission, Vision and Values. These lists contain the essential job duties, functions and expectations. However, these are not necessarily all-inclusive. Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned:
1. Use routing software to develop and maintain a computerized database of school bus routing and scheduling information. Update and maintain a student database to generate schedules, stops, runs, and routes information.
2. Review and revise regular and special education student bus routes and schedules. Maintains optimal efficiency of operation and use of buses and drivers.
3. Support the Transportation Director by creating and evaluating routing and scheduling options given various constraints such as fleet size, bell times, safety hazards and budget constraints.
4. Provide information and assistance to staff, schools and the public on routing issues, and assist with the evaluation and resolution of complaints and issues.
5. Assist in compiling and submitting accurate records to OPI.
6. Assist in organizing and scheduling schools and buses for special early out days, field trips (ABT, Quest, Job Fair, etc), School Bus Evacuations, K-1 Bus Safety Classes and other special events.

This position is an office environment-based role, there are no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands regularly required of the incumbent outside of a professional office environment. Frequent and continuous physical activities required, which includes: Sitting, typing, writing, hearing, listening, standing, talking, and walking. Occasionally required to bend, stoop, climb stairs, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, reach overhead, pull and push, and lift over 50 pounds. This role is mostly protected from weather conditions or contaminants, but not necessarily from the occasional temperature fluctuation.
