Job Summary:

This isn't a desk job. This is a boots-on-the-ground, lead-from-the-front role. You'll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our production, shipping, and delivery operations, managing a small team, and ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. This means you'll be working in the trenches, side-by-side with your team, learning every facet of the business, and driving continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Shipping & Delivery: Oversee the shipping and home delivery area, managing our existing team. This means understanding their roles inside and out, providing clear direction, and holding them accountable. You'll be shipping every Monday with the team until you have a deep understanding of the process. This is non-negotiable.
  • Production: Manage our current team and the production process. You'll spend 2-3 weeks working directly with her to learn every aspect of production, from ordering to scheduling. Within 4 weeks, you'll be setting the production schedule and taking over ordering (you may delegate later, but you must understand it first). You'll be responsible for optimizing production processes, especially as we introduce new products and expand. Continuous improvement is key – always be looking for ways to improve people, equipment, and workflow.
  • Team Management: Supervise, manage, and lead your team. This includes hiring, scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary action (using the employee handbook). You're responsible for ensuring adequate staffing, even when team members are absent. You'll need to rework schedules and fill in as needed – no excuses.
  • Warehouse Management: Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse. This is a top priority. The warehouse must be swept daily and free of debris. You'll create a culture of cleanliness and organization.
  • Performance Measurement: Develop and implement measurable scorecards for the warehouse team. Track, analyze, and review these metrics weekly with the team, ensuring they have real-time visibility into their performance.
  • Inventory Management: Implement a robust inventory program within 12 months. This is crucial for scaling our business. The program must accurately track product, measure costs, identify theft, and ensure we never run out of essential items.
  • Retail Support: You'll need to understand the retail operation to effectively support the team members who split their time between the warehouse and the store. You may also be asked to assist with sales as needed.
  • Financial Acumen: Understand the financial aspects of the operation. We'll work with you to provide the necessary tools and training.
  • Ordering & Supplies: Manage ordering and supplies effectively and efficiently. Avoid over-ordering and minimize inventory costs. Ensure we always have the necessary supplies on hand without wasting money on overnight shipping. Maintain a well-organized supply area.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Understand all relevant licensing and regulations for food production and operations. Research and stay informed about new regulations.
  • Training Programs: Develop and implement training programs for all warehouse positions within 6 months.
  • Employee Handbook: Know the employee handbook inside and out. Use it for employee questions, accountability, and disciplinary actions. Identify any necessary updates or changes.
  • Employee Time Off: Manage employee time-off requests according to the handbook. Ensure adequate staffing levels at all times. Be prepared to say "no" when necessary.
