What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical RN - Risk Management position at billingsclinic?
Clinical Risk Management RN assumes responsibility for one or more of the functional areas within Risk Management. The functional areas include day-to-day coordination of the departments' fiscal assets and personnel support and responsibilities for risk management of Billings Clinic and its affiliates, to include acute care hospital, physician clinics, and branch clinic locations.
Essential Job Functions
• Develops and oversees department cost centers to ensure adherence to organizational mission, vision, values, strategic goals, and business strategies. Interprets and supports the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic. Responsible for promotion of, and adherence to the elements of Billings Clinic's Code of Business Conduct and corporate compliance program.
• Assists in the development of methodologies to fulfill the organization's strategic initiatives for risk prevention, risk and claims management, patient safety and process improvement.
• Identifies and arranges for consulting assistance from internal or external sources as required to meet the needs of the Risk • Management Committee, Medical Staff, or others requiring risk prevention and mitigation education.
• Assists in establishing and maintaining processes to measure customer satisfaction including analysis, routine reporting, and recommendations on findings
• Assists in the development and delivery of annual training and education in risk prevention and reduction
• Collaboratively designs, coordinates, and manages an organization wide Risk Management Plan that organizes both risk prevention measures and claims processing and management systems for the hospital, physician clinics, branch clinics and long-term care.
• Provides direction and consultation services to Billings Clinic staff as necessary in connection with malpractice and medical legal matters
• Provides support for resolution of serious customer service complaints, grievances, and issues related to the quality of patient care and/or services, threats of legal action, and imminent safety/risk situations including mandatory reporting to FDA for serious patient/employee injury of death resulting from a medical device.
• Adherence to state and federal disclosure of health information obligation and restrictions is critical.
• Maintains legal case files electronically and/or on paper and ensures maximum protection from discovery.
• Actively participates in the assessment and evaluation of liability insurance coverage and provides confidential loss analysis, activity, and status reports as requested and appropriate to Billings Clinic leadership.
• Recommends defense postures and participates in evaluation of settlement values. Represents the organization at Montana Medical Legal Panels, settlement negotiations and trials at the direction of Risk Management leadership.
• Reviews and investigates incident and complaint reports. Recommends corrective action. Works collaboratively with Patient Safety, Quality, other leaders, providers and staff as needed to conduct review.
• Attends Risk Management, Patient Safety, Safety and Security, Quality, and other committees or meetings at the direction of leadership.
• Assists the Director in the development and communication of department specific and Billings Clinic policies and procedures
• Provides input in both short and long term planning for the department.
• Identifies need and sets goals for own personal growth and development; meets mandatory organizational and department requirements
• Maintains competency in organizational, departmental, and outside agency environmental, employee or risk management standards relevant to job performance
• Facilitates root cause analysis (RCAs), apparent cause analysis (ACAs), and failure mode effect analysis (FME) as needed
• Compose letters or e- mails to patients and patient family ensuring grammatical accuracy and according to terms of the Billings Clinic grievance policy
• Alert risk leadership of any potential legal actions
• Coordinate communication between patient and/or patient family with department supervisor and physicians to help present facts and work toward an acceptable resolution.
• Identify systems related problems, via patient/visitor data, proactive patient, family, team member rounding and work collaboratively with physicians, administrators, and staff to resolve.
• Assist in the preparation of annual and quarterly reports for the quality meeting and senior leadership;
• Participate in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations.
