Job Description
Full Time: a position working 32 hours per week. Minimum pay is $27.10/hr; additional compensation will be considered for candidates with higher amounts of experience above the minimum requirements.
The Arborist Crew Leader is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership of tasks and hands-on leadership to the Arborist crew. the Crew Leader directs and oversees the crew to ensure quality workmanship and efficient utilization of staff. As a professional, the Crew Leader must effectively solve challenges with safety, efficiency, and adherence to proper arboriculture practices. Striving for excellence in workmanship and possessing in-depth knowledge of technical aspects of moder arboriculture are essential. Additionally, the Crew Leader serves as a representative of the Biltmore Company, promoting a professional image while providing general support and assistance to the department, leadership, and company. The Crew Leader will also assist with forestry operations in guest areas.
Schedule can vary, but is generally from 7am-5pm Tuesday -Friday
Requirements:
1. High School diploma or GED
2. Minimum of five (5) years of arboriculture or related field experience with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
3. Knowledge of ropes, knots, and rigging for successful and safe tree pruning or removal
4. Knowledge of anatomy of trees and shrubs
5. Ability to be at team player in a quality focused, efficient group
6. Familiarity with ANSI and departmental safety standards
7. Must be able to work rotational weekends and be called on in emergency situations.
Required Certifications:
- ISA Certified Arborist or ability to achieve ISA certification within 6 months
- ISA Tree Risk Assessment qualification (TRAQ) or ability to achieve within 6 months
- Valid NC CDL Driver's license
- CPR and First Aid Training
Essential Job Duties:
1. Makes accident prevention a primary focus of daily work and leads regular and frequent safety meetings.
2. Coordinates all tree and ground work operations to make sure that work assignments are suited to the workers abilities.
3. Performs job site briefing with crew to identify obvious and obscure hazards and communicates them with the crew
4. Communicates regularly and frequently with Arborists Operations Manager about priorities, job scheduling and status, equipment status, and crew needs/supplies.
5. Works in trees when necessary and possesses the ability to perform an aerial rescue
6. Keeps accurate records of time and materials use for the job. Records information into department GIS software
7. Organizes the work to maximize and maintain crew safety, productivity, and efficiency
8. Maintain and keep track of tools and equipment, ensuring that all equipment and keys are properly stored and secured at day's end. Reports equipment damage to Arborist Operations Manager
9. Checks that vehicles and equipment are in proper working condition and ensures that first aid kits are stocked and fire extinguishers are serviceable
10. Ensures preventive equipment maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time; must be able to kneel, stoop, bend, reach below and overhead
2. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
3. Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding as needed
4. Ability to safely operate small equipment, machinery, and specialized equipment such as tractors and lifts as appropriate.
5. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather with fluctuations in temperature and conditions.
