Job Description
The starting pay range for this position begins at $19.44/hour and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements. Full Time: a position working 35 hours per week.
Third shift schedule will vary but is generally 9pm to 6am, working alternating short and long weeks.
The Company Police Officer is responsible for operating within all functions and operations of the Biltmore Company Police Department in the enforcement of North Carolina laws and regulations, the prevention of crime, and protection of life and property. Work involves vehicle and foot patrol of the property, investigations and wildlife management.
Requirements:
1. High school diploma required. Candidates must have current North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification.
2. All experience levels considered with required NC BLET certification. The preferred candidate will have had prior experience in law enforcement to include experience in a guest service setting.
3. Basic knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, practices, procedures, and techniques of police operations required.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively with a range of audiences, as well as comply with company, state, and local reporting requirements.
5. Proficiency Microsoft Word and with computers and the handling of electronic data; must be able to quickly acquire knowledge of Biltmore’s reporting systems and protocols.
6. Must have or be able to obtain First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications.
7. Must have a valid NC Driver's License with clean driving record & be at least 18 years of age
Physical Requirements:
1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and see.
2. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, or run; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; jump, climb, kick or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, turn, or crawl; push or pull objects and people; drive at high speeds; taste and smell.
3. The employee must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate the following: handguns, rifles, ammunition in the act of loading and unloading weapons, shotgun, handcuffs, ballistic vest, keys, pencil and pen with which to write on paper, baton, ticket book, personal computer, etc.
4. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 150 pounds.
5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
6. The employee must be able to effect an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdue resisting suspects using techniques and weapons and resort to the use of hands and feet and other approved weapons in self-defense.
7. The employee must be able to pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations which may involve quickly entering and exiting law enforcement patrol vehicles; lifting, carrying, and dragging heavy objects; climbing over and pulling oneself over obstacles; jumping down from elevated surfaces; climbing through openings; jumping over obstacles, ditches and streams; crawling in confined areas; balancing on uneven or narrow surfaces and using body force to gain entrance through barriers.
8. The employee must be able to operate a law enforcement vehicle during both day and night; in emergency situations involving speeds in excess of posted limits; in congested traffic, and in unsafe road conditions caused by factors such as fog, rain, ice and snow.
9. The employee must be able to perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include directing traffic for long periods of time, administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging, and carrying people away from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from particular areas.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Participate in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the department.
2. Participate in law enforcement programs in order to better carry out the policies and goals of the Biltmore Company.
3. Conduct special investigations as the needs arise.
4. Work shifts, which include working a rotating schedule of days, evenings, and midnights, on weekdays, weekends, or holidays.
5. Evaluate evidence, witnesses, and suspects in criminal cases to correlate all aspects and to assess for trends, similarities, or for associations with other cases.
6. Participate in annual law enforcement in-service training and other training events as required.
7. Prepare and submit incident reports regarding actions occurring on the property to include criminal investigations, vehicle accidents, etc.
8. Meet with other law enforcement officials, community and business representatives on all aspects of the department's activities.
9. Attend regional and state police conferences and meetings with other pubic officials as required.
